Best cream teas?

Shall we share details of the best cream teas around?  If we are going to do this + maybe we should decide what makes a really lovely cream tea?

This has always scored highly and didn’t disappoint when we took the park route back home from Kingston, this week.Fresh scones with fluffy insides and that slight crust on top.  Choices of sultana or plain scones with or without cream, and the cream tea with tea or coffee comes in at £5.95.Outside seats to take in the views from the top of the hill and large airy dining style rooms inside…. 10/10.

I visited Maids of Honour ans was bitterly disappointed both by the poor standard of cakes and sandwiches but also the so called service.  Never again.

All things in moderation. About 300 calories in a fruit scone, without the jam and cream. Costa is particularly bad for having very calorie heavy cakes on its menu. Obesity costs the NHS £6billion a year, so don’t overdo the treats.

..not forgetting that Caffe Nero and Costa do a decent cream tea/scone combo, and provide a variety of teas in china cups.  No square cucumber sandwiches, though!

Rock and Rose on Chiswick High Road looks like an ideal venue for a top CREAM TEA!

You could try it both ways and decide which you prefer:Devon - cream on first and then jamCornwall - jam on first and then creamI prefer raspberry jam although strawberry seems preferred by the majority or at least what is generally offered.I think a fairly decent cream tea is served at The Greenhouse near Kew Gardens station (cheaper option and for some reason cash only or at least it was until recently) and then there is always the posher place inside Kew Gardens for a full Afternoon Tea or they may have just a cream tea option (pretty expensive I should imagine).

You're probably thinking of the Maids of Honour in Kew Road Raymond. Whether it currently is as stylish as it was under the ownership of Mr Newan...I'm not sure.THE IVY in Richmond must be on a list of best tea rooms.

A few cucumber sandwiches cut into foursA proper Scone with the right size and texture.Proper cream preferably Clotted CreamDecent Jam Strawberry or Raspberry for usA pot of either Earl Grey or English Breakfast TeaWith hot water in a second potIn china crockery and with real milk in a little jug.And sugar lumps with tongsNo plastic pots or cutlery.And not at stupid prices as found in LondonCan't think of anywhere apart from the Place in Kew Road that comes near this simplest of indulgences.
