The pedestrian north side of the Great West Road is a disgrace.

It was kind of King George V and Queen Mary to open a stage of the Great West Road back in 1925.It is a major throughfare through Brentfordof which we used to be most proud.Take a walk from the Chiswick Flyover...starting on the west side... and you'll been startled to see masses of trapped litter ..seemingly left alone for years.Use the still active subway (ref A4 Smiths Factory)... ignore the filth and litter (not cleaned for years)...litter all along and in front of Dell, chaotic cycle path ..disgraceful Gatehouse zone at Gunnersbury Park.. and then the flytipping scene at the Sunley Plot at the entrance to Lionel Road  North. Who is in Charge?

I could, or the council could fulfil its responsibilities as funded by taxpayers and do more to keep the streets and public spaces clean.There are local authorities where resident groups run things as opposed to political parties. Lambert pushes ideology because it’s what he and a small group of like minded individuals think the rest of us deserve. Yet when other political parties do it he cries foul. Most normal people don’t have much truck with politicians. It’s obvious people like yourself don’t like to have your cosy opinions challenged, whether politely or not. So suck it up.

'first take the politics out of local government and I might be interested' - well we all know that's not going to happen so you've essentially excused yourself from participation while suggesting that Guy and his mates get on with it (although much more offensively expressed).You could always set up an alternative litter pick. Keep Britain Tidy is not an exclusive club although you may consider it a pressure group!

Well, first take the politics out of local government and I might be interested. But, for all you know, I might pick up litter when I see it anyway. But you carry on consoling yourself that you are better than the rest of us.

I've seen in the past that there are litter pickers for sale in Costcutters, Brentford High Street. I'm sure you'll find a way.

I keep trying to respond to this but something is causing it to self-delete.There are I think 2 issues being raised. Jim's original one was about rubbish on the Northside of the A4 between Chiswick Roundabout along I think to Clayponds Lane (approx) I haven't looked recently but I did complain about the subway a while ago. I will take a look soon, though no longer my ward. We were out last Saturday litter picking the south side of the A4 (where there's loads of stuff in the bushes between Windmill and Ealing, or was!)Barbara also mentioned rubbish under the ramps - again, needs a look. It is always problematic as it's dangerous for litter pickers to access, plus there's the problem of 3 authorities involved, National Highways, TfL and Hounslow.However Barbara's main comment, which she also wrote to me about, was lighting.The lighting underneath the M4 is a long standing issue, just made much worse, as the National Highways seem to have finished the lights that had survived under the section they are working on. TfL promised to improve them a while ago, but it turned out that this only improved it around Lionel Road. I am constantly chasing them but have had little success. This problem I'm told has been there for decades.

Brentford Voice have brought this up several times to and I understand that Brentford Football Club have also raised this for obvious reasons.But it's been dire now for such along time I've forgotten what it was like when it was lit properly.I'm sure someone knows but many moons ago the road under the flyover was lit with a strange white/blueish light and the cycleways/footpaths lit with the old style orange lights from Gunnersbury roundabout all the way to Boston Manor Road. There were a few more bus stops then as well.  That was in school days in the 70s but it was much better lit back then - Ironically most of the back streets certainly were not - very dark.

I agree and wrote to Guy Lambert about it last week.Also it is very dark along there at night, with hardly any lights.  I would not want to walk along there at night because of the lack of light.  I can't believe that nothing is being done to improve the lighting especially as we are being encourage to walk and cycle. Even getting on or off the H91 along there requires you to walk along the pavement in very poor light.
