Thomas Layton Way ...

The old Brentford Market site isnow filled with a close web of skyscrapers as you will have easily seen.It is quite appropriate that one of the "roadways" is named after an illustriousfamed local...who is buried in the Old Brentford Cemetary.But to see the street sign sayingTHOMAS LAYTON WAY, HOUNSLOW, TW8is taking the micky.Shouldn't it be BRENTFORD TW8? Are the Council trying to  erase Brentford as a destination?

No. This is a directive from the Mayors office but is NOT mandatory. But is used by developers marketing agents. The correct address remains Brentford, Middlesex, TW8Brentford is not in the London Postal Area.  Hence Ealing, London W5 but Greenford, Middlesex, Perivale, Middlesex, Richmond, Surrey and Kew, Surrey.

There would seem to be confusion about changes to the fairly recent Hounslow Council Ward boundaries...(and postcodes?). Some previous BRENTFORD areas seem to have been transferred to Chiswick Wards.A recent advert from the Brentford Football Club Community Unit includes the address :Thomas Layton Way,LONDON. TW8!Is the name Brentford being erased from our maps?

Indeed, well fone. I learned to drive on the old Brentford Market site. It was deserted on Saturdays and Sundays and my first parking lessons were between two huge costers market barrows.

I would expect it to say 'London Borough of Hounslow' and 'Brentford' as as far as I know it does on all roads in Brentford.If it doesn't, that is an error by Hounslow Highways and I will ask ward councillors to follow it up.Sorry to disappoint you all - there is nobody taking the Mickey, it has nothing to do with 'One Hounslow' and it is not part of some evil conspiracy.Contractors made mistakes even when you were a kid, Jim.
