Local Author Mavis Cheek RIP.

A full page obituary in The Times newspaper on 4th July outlined the talents of this lady who's several "comic novels mocked the middle-class characters" in her life.She once lived in Chiswick from where she gathered much good material for her writings... then moved to Wiltshire and finally to Brentford at the Upper Butts.Any local knowledge or appreciation of her work ..and local residence?

Just to let you know that I am now in touch with Rima ... and plan to borrow those picture albums and keep fingers crossed that the true ownership of the family treasure can be located.

I wonder if the MURELL FAMILY album you have was lost or stolen?Yes I'll have a go at tracing the owner of the Album or the family.Firsly there is a Brandon Public Library and also a Brandon Historic Society on Facebook. Thanks Jim.I’ve just been looking through these albums again.The history of several generations  and named friends of one family. From 1925 onwards.St James Park. Houses of Parliament. Cape TownSunday School Class 1925. Felixstowe 1927……..Priceless really.Don’t know about Facebook. Is it something you can do Jim?

Some detective work on Social Mediamight find the rightful owner.I'm reminded of an album stolen years ago in Chiswick and dumped in a front garden. A photo in the album of a lady at her Degree Ceremony was circulated ..the Manchester University identified .. and after various leads and publicity on the ChiswickW4 forum.. the album was reunited with the family at the old Barley Mow pub.Unfortunately it's not easy to upload pictures onto the Forum these days.A Suffolk Facebook page?

Also 2 photo albums have been found on a pavement in Chiswick.Owner F. E. Murell76 High Street BrandonSuffolkMany photos taken mostly in the 30’s and a historic record of events at that time.A pity for them to be destroyed.

If you enjoy a good novel, Jim, then I recommend her first: Pause Between Acts. Her books seem to be mostly out of print, which is a pity. Maybe her death will encourage a revival.

I met Mavis a few times during the 90s and enjoyed several of her novels, some of which are set in Chiswick. I saw the death notice in The Times last week and was happy to see that she had got an obituary.
