Did you know that stealing a push bike could get you 7 years in prisonment, breaking into a house is 14 years and robbing a person carries life?Those are the lengths of sentences that a first time offender can receive for each of the offence. There is a big issue being discussed at the moment weather prisons work. In my view they do, if someone is behind bars then my house, car, or my wife are safer from that person for however long that person is inside. A week, 2 months a year, whatever, means that person can not commit crime against me or any other person.Lets build more prisons extend the ones we’ve got place them on containers ships in the North Sea for all I care, but lets show that if your arrested your going to prison!!!!! A 3 strikes rule should be introduced, 1st time you commit that offence you have to serve a 3rd of the sentence i.e burglary 4years 7 months you stay inside until you have served the full tern no discount for being a good boy or let out on license. After that time you leave prison if you then commit another burglary get caught and go to prison it should be for 9 years 4 months, and once you have come out any offence after that would be for the full length i.e 14 years. In a lifetime a person may only commit 3 burglaries People say prison doesn’t work, it leads to re offending more community based sentences should be used so Billy burglar in the real world would go to prison for a year let out after 6 months goes and commits another burglary and so on Billy Burglar in my world would be inside for nearly 5 years, so all the time a person is inside they are not going to re-offend and my house car or cat is safer people on community service do 7 hours 1 or 2 days a week how can that stop someone re offending of be a deterrent.The justice system need to be something people are scared of, knowing that if they are in a court room they are going to prison. Lets being soft on these criminals and lets start being tough on crime, and care for all the victims.
