Will it snow?

Often surrounding areas have snow - and we don't (did somebody say it was because of the heat from the advertising hoardings across the area? surely not!).What are the odds for us this time, do you think?Our Oz visitors will be heating up the charcoal on the beach without a care - what about our visitors from the US and elsewhere?  Do you disappear under the fluffy stuff each winter?

http://www.vbg.ru/Midday in Vyborg and the pavement is packed with busy people.  The parking which I am sure didn't extend to the area in front of the camera, has now done so.  There is only one space left, chaps!Will we see the arrival of yellow lines, parking bays, pay and display machines and ... oh, no! traffic wardens over the coming months?

Lots of the stuff, Jim - but it doesn't appear to get too deep or too even - just frozen until it melts in the spring.Vyborgians must have solved the problem of the 'slippery sole' as they don't appear to go in for gritting.

No I don't think the stores opened at 5 a.m. here Audrey.  If they did I certainly would not be there at that unearthly hour.     I see that there was a stampede at certain stores in Portland, people got quite excited and lost their cool!     Hope that you were safe and sound home in bed.

At 5pm in chivery Vyborg today..the snow is there for all to see.I wonder how many of those Russian folk have central heating in there homes?

I woke up this morning to a 'winter wonderland' down here in Taunton, Somerset! It looked nice - but played havoc with my traction control! And theres more to come aparrently! Boo!

Sorry to hear that Doris! We were there last week and really enjoyed the weather - got back to PDX and about froze our tush!! Such a change. Wasn't too bad here today, the rain didn't start until about 5pm. Hope you had a great turkey day anyway!! Good luck in the stores tomorrow... (Are they opening at 5a.m as here?)

Audrey I'm afraid the weather forcasters got it wrong for our weather today.  It is truly miserable outside, rain, rain and more rain. The only thing we have to be thankful for is that the rain is not horizontal, it is not blowing a gale.    We are warm and toasty inside, hope it will improve tomorrow, I intend to visit the local shops along with everyone else!     Sarah we do not get snow here on the coast, maybe a light dusting once in a great while. It never lasts for long,only long enough for us to rush for the cameras, and then it is gone! We do have frosts sometimes, and we have thunderstorms,and gales, and large hailstones.

Wait for an Easterly wind Sarah, that will bring snow off the Continent. The Northerly that we have at the moment will only bring slight showers. Scotland will get the worst. Actually heat in Central London does do a diversion act on the weather. My Uncle who worked at Heathrow used to say that you could see the clouds diverging to the North and South, as they passed over towards London. In fact when I was at school before the dawn of time I had a geography book that in its weather section showed a tempreture isotherm over Central London, and that dated back to the start of the last century.Thats before they politicised geography, but thats another story.

I hope not!  It looks pretty & the children love it but getting around is not fun.  If you don't have to work/get to school/shop e.t.c. & can 'dig yourself in' for a few days then it's fine, but most of us don't have that luxury.  It's dangerous walking or driving in it & it's even worse when it freezes over & turns to ice.  Bah humbug!

Sarah, tomorrow is Thanksgiving - biggest family get together of the year! Here in Portland we have a very nice day forecast, little bit of wind but otherwise OK. Rain coming in late tomorrow into Friday - THE biggest day of the year for shopping! Stores open early, many 5a.m.! We have an 18# turkey to cook tomorrow, will do it in a plastic bag so only about 2 or 3 hours. We've made the cranberry dressing; if Dan is reading, we've used NW cranberries! It really doesn't look like a great weekend for the snow/ski lovers!! Over to you Doris - I bet it will be fabulous at the beach!!
