South Ealing Road Closure?

There is a sign at the bottom of the South Ealing Road, by the petrol station at the junction with the A4.  It states that the road will be closed from 23rd to 29th October.  Please will someone tell me that I have got this wrong.  I don't need to spell out why!!!

Was still closed mid-afternoon and was scheduled to last until tomorrow. The work looked finished but the barriers were still around and I know they sometimes leave a day or so for the tarmac to 'cure'

What's the matter with the rest of your local councillors Guy?Why is it only you sticking your neck out over all this and not a hoot from the Transport Portfolio Holder and why is she not asking questions of the inaction from the Highways Officer?This collective of roadworks is seriously damaging to far too many people in far too many ways to be acceptable.The lack of notifications, updates and advance warnings is disgraceful.

I went up there this morning to take a look. Fortunately I didn't go until 10.30 which gave them a chance to get on site and start unloading their digger. There was a guy for Hounslow Highways there 'encouraging' them.The only diversion notice I could find was where you'd normally enter Ealing Road from the A4, meanwhile the diversion notices from National Highways were encouraging you to turn into Ealing Road from the left lane.TfL have put a bus diversion on their website:"EALING ROAD: From 08:00 Monday 23 October to 17:00 Friday 27 October, routes 65 and N65 are on diversion via Great West Road, Gunnersbury Avenue and Popes Lane due to electrical works. Buses towards Ealing Broadway are missing the stops Challis Road and Carlyle Road."

As if it's not badly delayed by the road works near Kew Bridge for months and months and the mess up at Ealing Road /A4 junction.residents should be able to claim compensation for the months of total inconvenience and loss of earnings and more.

From TfLEALING ROAD: From 08:00 Monday 23 October to 17:00 Friday 27 October, routes 65 and N65 are on diversion via Great West Road, Gunnersbury Avenue and Popes Lane due to electrical works. Buses towards Ealing Broadway are missing the stops Challis Road and Carlyle Road.Popes Lane has been an obstacle course for the past two months. If you need to use the 65, you're going to need to allow a lot of extra time!

What on earth was that quote from a senior Traffic officer meant to mean?Why have they not been on the backs of all parties that have caused utter chaos for months and months and months?

Oh dear (putting it politely)  But thank you Guy for getting on to it. The warning sign is very small - you barely notice it as you're driving past and you certainly can't read it all properly. It's tucked away in the entrance to the petrol station.Why hasn't there been some joined-up thinking here so that the works were scheduled AFTER Windmill Road re-opens?

I can't stop it. The closure is for SSE to overhaul electricity supply to the small industrial estate at the junction with the A4. I'm now told this has been planned for several months and has now been restricted to a closure only northbound. It is a great pity that this is happening, and without proper notice. I knew nothing of it until I saw Alison's post here.I'm told that traffic will be diverted to the 'hamburger' junction at Riverside Way, opposite GSK, to u-turn there and go up Windmill Road to make their way towards Ealing Road. This is far from satisfactory, and I don't know what the fate of the 65 bus is: there is nothing I can find on the TfL website. I can only think it will have to follow Windmill, Little Ealing Lane etc because residential roads will not be suitable.The senior manager at Hounslow Highways comments: "The disruption to traffic due to the A4 works and other local works does impose a need to really challenge any unnecessary openings along and adjacent to the aforementioned restrictions at present. I would like a strict policy of daily inspections to ensure that the  promoters are abiding by all conditions (including letter drops and signage) and fines imposed accordingly especially any overrun which we need to explain to them is not an option. I would appreciate an update to those included on Thursday next week to confirm that the works will complete on time please."As Alison says, I'm furious about this but I don't have the power to stop it. I am also furious about the inadequate notice.

Guy Lambert has seen this and has clarified that the closure is one way, northbound.  He is furious and is going to try to get it stopped for obvious reasons.

This endless disruption is seriously damaging to the livelihoods and day to day lives of almost everyone in Brentford South Ealing Boston Manor and Northfields.For many it is costing work contracts and commissions, care and humanitarian abilities, commercial deliveries and collections, appointments, shopping.And it is simply not even as TfL keep plastering on their websites and posters " "Why not walk" You cannot even cross the road.The lame excuse that Windmill road needs to be closed of for Welfare facilities for workers, Yet just 100m along the reservation widens enough to accommodate a sauna and steam room for operatives.Last I heard, operatives had to be fit and able. So why can't they 'Walk' 100m further?Lame excuses and more lame action from a Council whose leadership is opposed to anything that might improve traffic flow whatever damage it does to ordinary local people. It's ideology that counts.

If the Windmill Road/A4 crossing is closed and the South Ealing Road/A4 crossing is closed how are people in north Brentford/Ealing to get south of the A4? And back?  The only way will be down Windmill Road, turn left, down to the roundabout and turn right.  It already takes ages to negotiate the left turn from Windmill onto the A4 because of queueing traffic on the A4. And how are people supposed to get back?  You won't be able to head north up South Ealing Road and you can't head north across the A4 via Windmill Road.Perhaps postponing these works until Windmill Road reopened might have been a good idea.What is the 65 bus going to do?

Worth pointing out that it's half term so slightly less traffic. If the work had to be done then next week is the week to do it.

The sign is there. SSE works and no doubt essential but not much warning.No doubt Lambert will bluster about it but achieve nothing. Presumably the Hounslow councillors have been distracted by the Israel-Palestine situation.
