Sara, your questions about Thanksgiving have gone unanswered so far so I will endeavour to shed some light. It dates back to the 1600's, I think to Plymouth on the East coast when the Pilgrims first celebrated their first harvest. They invited the local Indians to the celebratory feast of wild turkey (must have been very stringy) and pumpkin was featured also. Today in the USA Thanksgiving is celebrated with a big meal of roast Turkey, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. Its all about giving thanks, family and good food, no presents are required. Mostly it is about appreciating what we have and giving to those less fortunate. Our little town organizes a Thanksgiving meal for everyone, shut-ins have their meal delivered to them. All run by contributions of money or food served and delivered by volunteers. When I first arrived here, Thanksgiving did not mean much to me, but now I think it is my favourite holiday. Xmas has been ruined in my opinion, by commercialism. Bah Humbug!!
