Recycling query: Paper: Card : Cardboard

I'm confused about the recycling of CARDlike cereal box card etc.Should card be put in the Community Bins marked PAPER? (I think so)CARDBOARD is a different material...e-flute and all that.I'm busy de-cluttering and clear advice from BRAG (brentford recycling action group) or our key Councillors would be helpful.

No. Our recycling is mostly sold directly from Hounslow to recycling companies. Food waste (including shredded paper) and garden waste is sold through a West London Waste Authority contract. I doubt they have 'no sparkly paper' etc on their bins. Recycling is fairly complicated.

If shedded paper is regarded as suchis the matter raised at Waste Authority level.Richmond seem not to have "no shredded paper" notices on their PAPER,CARD AND CARDBOARD bins. Why not.Do they finally mixed their stuff with Hounslows under the umbrella of the same West London Waste Authority.?

I completely agree with the advice from LondonRecycles, as would West London Waste Authority. A separate cluster of recycling bins at the Whitton Car Park accept ..."TINS, GLASS, SOFT PLASTICS" altogether!There must be some sortation somewhere.How come, with Hounslow,Richmond are part of the West London Waste Authority?Cllr Lambert attends their Meetings but once again he provides no interesting feed back.

I feel that Cllr Guy Lambert should either raise his game in the area of Waste and Recycling or pass the responsibility  to someone else if he is overloaded with other Councillor responsibilities. He seems to have too many hats.

It's interesting that the Richmond Council amalgamated PC&C bins at Whitton also accept shredded paper seemingly.I've seen evidence of that ... and there is no "No shredded paper" notice.Not the same in Hounslow! Aren't we all part of the West London Waste Authority?

Cllr Lambert recently reported that he had attended one of their meetingsIn my view there is such a lot of education needed locally to clarify the do's and don'ts of recycling. All within this senior councillors domain.He reported that BRAG are not very active these days. Nothing else to say to us.Afterwards they all went for a social drink ... nothing wrong with that.But recycling advice to the hoards living locally is much lacking.

I'm still not happy about this subject.Hounslow's road-side big binsare often just labelled PAPER ...(no mention of card)The Hounslow Council recycling lorries touring the area have an illustrationon a rear side panel clearly  showing the nature of cardboard (E flute and all that)Card is CARD!What happens at the Council Waste Depot in Southall Lane.?In Richmond on Thames there is a big surprise. The BIG BINS at Whitten are labelled :PAPER - CARD - CARDBOARD altogether!* it must be segragated / sorted somehow or is it all recycled together.Both Richmond and Hounslow come within the West London Waste Authority.Cllr Lambert attends meetings with them.or just the MD.There's never clear feedback

I usually put cardboard items into a large cardboard box and put it in the paper recycling box.You can also compost cardboard in you garden.JL.

So card goes in the "CARDBOARD" BINThe HC bins should ideally be labelled so.in my book.Thanks for participating thoughA lot of education needs doing.If hounslow council have recycling targets... to avoid future penalties ...I guess there is a lot more to do.

No, no, no, JimI have said many times, cardboard (ribbed) is the same to recyclers as what you regard as card (cornflake box)It will be taken in the paper bin but reduces the value of the paper recycling because card (or cardboard) is not as valuable as paper.
