It’s only mid-May yet the award for most naive post of the year seems to be in the bag. There are any number of dishonest, venal and corrupt politicians you could name. Johnson, Trump, Blair. Plenty of examples in local government too, as Private Eye reports every fortnight. There’s even a Labour councillor in Brentford who claims his allowance and does zero work!Lambert might have put his head above the parapet and perhaps deserves some credit for that, but he’s shown his true colours recently when challenged on the street (or not even challenged in some cases). Aggressive and condescending. If it was a Tory showing those traits he’d be the first to point it out. What you seem to have entirely missed is that there’s very little challenge in the local media to anything put out by those running things. Even the recent Mayoral election saw the incumbent rarely put to the test about his record after eight years. Interesting that some things did come out post election on BBC London but were barely reported beforehand, if at all.Lambert hasn’t been averse to distortion of facts or simply ignoring them. He has to be challenged on these, though his usual response is a harrumph. He always toes the party line, although as Theo Dennison and others discovered you don’t stay in the political club if you aren’t a willing minion. If politicians really had all the answers we wouldn’t be in such a terrible mess nationally and globally, would we?
