Amazing news about Lidl

Really pleased to learn that Lidl will be taking over the old Morrisons site. I had been hoping it would be them. It is hard to say whether Morrisons have increased prices in the new store beyond what they might have done if they had stayed put but Lidl is much cheaper either way. I strongly recommend you sign up for the Lidl Plus card as it regularly gives you free stuff including a fresh baked loaf of bread every month.

I discovered the Joy of Lidl when they opened in Hammersmith and I could cycle to the store but this one will be closer for me. That said it will be interesting to see what the customer parking restrictions are - it would be nice to see extended hours in the evenings so you could shop and then linger for a meal or a drink in the area.

The two Lidls in Acton offer 90 minutes of free parking, so it's eminently possible to do some shopping and have a meal nearby - or the other way round if you're buying ice cream!

We have been shopping at Lidl's Fulwell shop for years, I think Morrisons are really going to feel this!

It was quite obvious from the Public Statements announced by LIDL a month or so ago that they were moving to Brentford, where they would be opening.As Cllr Lambert ascertains it will be “A welcome addition to Brentford”Its anyones guess though when it will open and its already almost 6 months later than promised. Thats without the Planning Permission that has to be passed or will that be rushed through?As I mentioned before Morrisons will not like the competition and being made to move out of a prime site to an inferior one will no doubt be very costly for them in the long run.I very much doubt LIDL will open this year if the building needs gutting and renovating.

It was little more than a void when Morrisons moved ut, so apart from the fit-out, which can be done remarkably quickly and running up the freezers and chiller, it could be open in a matter of weeks.Morrisons may well pull out, Thay are in a parlous state financially with an emormous debt burden since the leveraged buy-out.

I can’t see the new Lidl opening very soon if they have to build the 200 flats proposed for the old Morrisons site.  Or have they been scrubbed, along with the nearby art centre?  If so, what was the point of Morrisons moving out?

I believe they moved out in anticipation of an imminent start to the total redevelopment of the site. Think the developer has run into the 'increasing costs/ lower demand' issue facing many of them.

I think it will take longer than a few weeks for Lidl to open as they (so I've read) are planning to create windows along the side facing the street.

Well I do too, especially as LIDL are saying its going to be a multi million £ investment. Im hoping we might get an Aldi store as well, especially if the Tesco Extra closes in Osterley.

Yes, but not until the new one opens in the old Homebase site. I know a couple of people who work there and the latest closure date is late 2027.

No opening date was ever promised - the landlords were hoping for a lease to be signed earlier. I believe they have lodge a planning application - not seen it as yet.They have suggested an opening 'before Christmas', I understand.A major redevelopment, no doubt including Housing Association accommodation, will need another planning agreement I presume. This will not involve Lidl, except as a tenant.

Thanks for the answers. LIDL are promising a multi million £ investment. Unlikely they spend millions if the site is going to be redeveloped in the future and as others have said the shop could be kitted out quite quickly if its just a makeover of the existing shop. I would have thought it will not cost millions of £s for that.
