Change the Borough's name ?

If we became the Borough of West Middlesex ... would we feel better?

Changing the name would simply give councillors and officers the excuse to waste yet more of our Council Tax, on re-branding consultants,sign writers, printers etc etcJust think of Shakespeare - a rose by any other name would smell as sweet [or not].....

Absolutely agree Kenneth.If "Chiswick residents" were to visit Hounslow High Street and the alleyways/roads leading off it...they'd be horrified and demand independance from Hounslow.Hounslow Town Centre seems to be going increasingly downhill.

It is probably too late and too expensive to change the name but I do think having an administrative centre on the periphery has made the borough less cohesive. Ealing for instance, which has a similar demographic does seem more comfortable with its identity because people from across the borough have actually visited where local government is based. If I was to guess I'd say about 80% of non-Hounslow town residents of Hounslow Borough have never been to Hounslow.

I used to take the night bus from Brentford to Hounslow over 5 years ago and it never ceased to amaze me how dirty and filthy Hounslow was then! Jim are you saying it’s worse? I go there now and again but not noticed,but maybe that’s because it was always piled high with rubbish.I used to live at Thorncliffe House in Heston back in the 70s. Back then Hestonwas similar to Chiswick a nice leafy suburb!We have friends who still live there off central Avenue and their road is still very nice.

As you will know ... Chiswick has now joined up with Hammersmith to create a new named Parliamentary Constituency. In addition parts of Brentford East and all of Gunnersbury Park and some adjoining homes have now been transferred to Chiswick Wards for the purpose of Local Elections.Do those areas think that they have bettered themselves.The character and reputation of Central Hounslow these days is bordering on disgraceful.The word Hounslow is now associated with the words ... dirty and crummy.All over local Social Media Facebook Sites there is a constant opinion of not wanting to visit the place again now that they've moved away and have heard how dreadful it's become. Only yesterday I was told of a young policeman who's packing the job in ... because of the horrid people he's having to deal with.The word "Hounslow" should be eliminated from the lingo of Brentford, Isleworth and Chiswick.Opps! I forgot Heston. But that's gone downhill too.

Brentford is a very Historic name and predates Roman times. I don’t think we should lose that name at all.  Geographically we are “West” so West could be added to the London Borough of Hounslow and Middlesex. Oh does Middlesex no longer exist. Certainly the County Council does not!

We don't have a little village like Havering Atte Bower in the borough to provide an eccentric name for Havering Borough. Nearest I can think of in Hounslow Borough is Bedfont. I'm happy with it being called Hounslow but Brentford would be an attractive alternative.

The name London Borough of Hounslow really bugs me. Have never liked it. Perhaps in some part because we have an area within the borough called Hounslow whiich, as far as I’m concerned, is awful (High Street anyway). I don’t think the name truly reflects the borough.
