LIDL supermarkets are known by manyreaders. One of the attractions are the "Centre Isle" counters which display all manner of hardware items which appeal to DIY enthusiasts. The store at Fulwell hosts quite a large selection of such goodies...(four long counters)The St Margarets store ...has not quite as much ... the Shepherds Bush Mall store even less.I was surprised to find that the Hammersmith branch (within the Livat /Ikea shopping complex) didn't have any such popular counters at all.Hammersmith did have these counters once ... but because of the high level of pilfering (in W6) they were abolished. One wonders if Brentford's new branch will take the risk!

The front page reports on Lidl's Brentford Store opening and that trading begins in 13 days time on the 5th June. Many readers will be aware of the significance of that PINEAPPLE on their poster. It refers to a place of ..."WARMTH AND GENEROUSITY"Bring it on!

I stand corrected on the Hammersmith once having a Middle of Lidl isle. Thinking about it there was one last time I was there not in the middle but by the bakery. So not in the middle. I haven't been for a while. The store is not all payment by self checkout, there is a cashier who will take payment by the self checkout machines. I would be surprised if there was much theft from this store - there is a narrow exit and there normally is a security guard and the self checkouts have cameras.

Interestingly the Hammersmith store only has self checkouts which are known for high levels of pilfering.

I know there are regular and blatant shoplifters at Morrisons and no one challenges them.

Be assured that there WAS a middle isle at the Hammersmith Branch (within the Livat Shopping Mall)However on recently seeing that there wasn't one currently ... I asked a member of staff and was told that "pilfering" provided too many headaches and it was terminated.I was shocked to hear that.Locally the Fulwell branch has the largest number of such dedicated counters to my knowledge whilst the East Twickenham (St Margaret's) branch has less.I just wondered how Brentford wòuld fare is this dishonesty stakes.I would suggest that Hounslow Town would be a non-starter for such an enterprise. A big shame really. But that's the reality it seems.I'd be interested to see a Gregg'sleague table of happenings!

Keith is probably right, there isn't much space in the Hammersmith store. Plus when it launched there was a Wilko next door which might have meant they decided to stick to food and drink.

Te centre isle is probably just in the bigger stores.Hammersmith and East Twickenham are smaller stores.
Yes, the 'middle of Lidl' is always an attraction. Their tools, and gardening equipment are very good quality, as are many of their clothing lines, highly recommend.
