Local History Anomoly

Opposite the entrance to the Butts Estate on The Half Acre/Boston Manor Rd is a large lamp post. Cast on the lamp pst is the legend H&I.U.D.CHeston and Isleworth Urban District Council.When Brentford has always been an Urban District in its own right.Did H&I simply have some lamp posts to spare which Brentford snapped up? michael adams

Having just Googled:In the early days of electricity some local councils were pioneers in setting up as suppliers. One such was Heston & Iselworth who set up their own Power Station in Bridge St Hounslow. This arrangement continued until nationlisation in 1948 while the station only closed in 1964.So presumably they supplied street lighting at least to bordering boroughs.  michael adams

What has always struck me as an anomaly is how on earth Heston & Isleworth got paired up in the first place.
