Should there be a set time for hospital visiting hours?

Another topic under discussion at west middlesex hospital is the question of visiting times?Are the times convenient or reasonable and should there be set times?Should certain visitors have concessions e.g. a parent visiting a child etc.?

I am not so concerned about hours of visiting, I think people work odd hours and as long as they are respectfully quiet I think in theory its ok. I am more interested in the enforcement of the amount of visitors. I was visiting my mother when she was in for a very serious op, she was very unwell during recovery. The patient opposite had 8 people round her bed at one point and this happened frequently during her stay. I was outraged by this. They were being really noisy and the nurses did nothing. My mother was very distressed.

I feel there shouldnt be a set time as lots of people work and cant visit till late, i dont get to the hospital till 8pm as shivon goes home for the day and my family would like to see her so they could only visit after 8pm so i say 10pm would be a good time.

I think the visiting hours should, if possible, be up to the state of the patient and the convenience of the staff.  Many patients need a sleep in the afternoon, and so visiting is inconvenient and bad for their recovery.  Visiting hours in the evening can also cause distress to some patients when the visitors are noisy and inconsiderate to others.  Each patient should be treated by their merits and discuss with the matron or ward sister in charge.  Difficult, I know, but that is the only way to please everyone.  The patient/s should come first, NOT the visitors.

hi yes a parent should be able to visit any time as some work different times and other commitments but for other people visiting 8pm is fineDebbie
