Door-to-door dusters - 4.15pm, Friday 14th November, Brook Road South

Just answered the door to an incredibly sweet and polite guy with a holdall, containing the usual dusters and cloths. He gave me a spiel about homelessness and trying to make a go of improving his life. I didn’t want his dusters, but gave him a fiver and wished him well. On reflection, it’s most likely a scam and he’s probably scoping out likely targets for burglary, which is a great shame and I hope I’m wrong. Unlike me, try to have your wits about you.

I hope so too. He seemed to be such a terrific kid.  I’d be incredibly sad to learn that he’s raising funds for a local community meth lab.Troub is, I’ve now looked up the door-to-door dusters thing and they all work to a script - homeless, rehabilitation through work, an attempt to reboot their lives… all the time casing the joint for a future heist. Let’s be optimistic and cross our fingers that it was just a good kid trying to make something of himself.
