CPZ consultation

Just got the result of the consultation about changing the Brook Road South CPZ times (basically, someone wanted to keep the 2 hours in the morning, but get rid of any evening restrictions)Result: 80 responses             77 against             2 in support             1 suggested modification.I'm all for local democracy, etc. but this does seem to have involved quite a lot of money spent to appease what could be interpreted as a one person's (plus partner?) hobby horse?It certainly didn't capture the imaginations of the local residents

Nor did LBH ignore the vote for an Augustus Close CPZ. Which was rejected by the majority here on 2 occasions. I actually thought it would be a good solution to have one on the second consultation.

They haven't ignored the results of CPZ consultations in this area in the past.

Perhaps the council will use the now legendary Church St. consultation response as template and completely ignore what the people wish for.

Well it's up to people to vote, car owner or not. I fall into the latter category but voted for things to stay the way they are. I can't actually understand why the possible change in time was mooted. If I remember correctly, the letter telling us about the proposed change said that a number of businesses in the area had requested it. I am not aware of many businesses in the BRS area, apart of course from a no. of pubs and mentioned this in my response. Whatever.

One problem with CPZ consultations is that they tends to favour resident car owners, who are often quite keen to see the coverage extended for more hours and days.  Meanwhile, non-car owning residents can end up paying more for visitor tickets if they invite a few friends round in the evening or for Sunday lunch, yet I doubt if they're represented as much in the consultations.

Well GuyDemocracy, Perhaps you could explain about the LTNs imposed by you and your then Labour cronies who imposed them when every ward in the Borough voted against them

It's called democracy.We get a lot of complaints about CPZ's being imposed against residents' preferences so it is normal to review them from time to time.I am pleased this one has almost unanimous support, though I have my own issues about how long these take and how much effort is involved - I think it could be done more simply but you need more Green councillors to improve the systems!
