The trees were largely Trees of Heaven. If I remember what was said at the meeting at the library about the felling of the trees correctly, they are highly invasive non-native trees which are no longer allowed to be planted. I believe an ash is also to be felled - maybe it has been already - as it and the other trees were affecting the structure of the surrounding wall which is, apparently, listed. There are plans to plant native trees and to create some kind of magic garden.
