Brentford Fountain. The actual Brentford Fountain.

Headline story is of a new Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre being designed. First, I wish people, including councillors, wouldn't just use 'Brentford Fountain' when referring to this facility. Brentford Fountain, as anyone with a passing knowledge of Brentford knows, is an actual fountain, removed and left rotting near Heathrow for many decades. A lot of work was put in not too long ago to persuade its keepers - Western International Market - to let Brentford have it back. As I understand it, no organisation in Brentford, including the Council, Brentford FC and others, was prepared to give this excellent historic landmark a home. Surely this is the opportunity! But I'm very out of touch with the current situation. Perhaps Jim Storrar can tell us the latest?

Hi Mike,There is positive news on the Brentford Fountain. Planning permission has been approved for the redevelopment of the "Sega site" at 27-1053 Great West Road and this includes listed building consent for the restoration and relocation of the Fountain within the site.We would have liked to see a location closer to the Fountain's original position on the northern approach to Kew Bridge, but this is probably as good as we could have anticipated.Being next door to the Gtech, we would like to think that the Fountain will become a meeting place for fans.Given the current state of the housing market, there is a long way to go!

If the heart of Brentford is Market Place/Square ...isn't that the best location for the the Fountain,recognising the Market's prominence over a wide Region in times past.A backwater location like the one being publicised doesn't seem right ... in my view anyway.

Thanks, Jim, glad you've made a breakthrough at least and well done!Sorry for the delay, not such a frequent flyer here since I moved away, but Brentford always in my heart. I still get to the pub and a Bees match occasionally. What's going on in Windmill Road lately is mind-blowing horrid. Witnessed first hand about a month ago.
