If you mean the "Big Garden Birdwatch" organised by the RSPB, yes, it is this weekend. Full details are at http://www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch/2006/index.asp.The annual RSPB survey should not be confused with the BTO's (British Trust for Ornithology's) "Garden BirdWatch" scheme which takes weekly reports from 16,500 members (including me). (Details at www.bto.org/gbw )Although the two surveys present their results differently, it looks as if the RSPB survey last year had vastly more house sparrows reported than the BTO survey. I wonder if people who thought they saw a female House Sparrow ...... actually were looking at a Dunnock ...The shape of the beak is the best way to distinguish them.
