DJ on the move

So sad to see DJ Campbell off to Birmingham City - I thought he was premiership class even when I saw him in non-league. I know the money will be very useful. However if lots of chances are created against Charlton and not converted then people will be thinking what might have been.

18.55 Wednesday evening and absolutely nothing on the Brentford F.C website concerning the sale of DJ Campbell. Its a disgrace. I am a supporter of Martin Allen and normally he is very media freindly his silence concerning this transfer is deafining. However, no doubt his hands were tied concerning the transfer as he would not have been the first Bees manager to have that done to him. Yet again the Brentford Football Club P.R machine found wanting.

According to the Brentford website Sodje turned down Southampton a teatime on Tuesday. Its very strange that the Birmingham site is full of the DJ signing but Brentfords dosnt mention it. However they managed to give a quote on the Sodje rejection and a youth team half time update at 8.45pm !!!..Seems like they know there is going to be resentment concerning the transfer and are holding out as long as possible to give a quote. No doubt it will be a case of "It was an offer we could not refuse considering our financial position."..However, I feel they could have waited until the end of the season DJ would still of commanded a large fee. It just leaves a sour taste in the supporters mouth....AGAIN !!!

O'Mara was touted as being a potential £200,000 player, a tidy sum in those days.  Spurs were said to be interested.  He ended up going to Blackburn for £30,000, then Sheffield Wednesday, then Margate, then British Airways.  There was of course a question over his temperament, which led to him being suspended for much of the season.Martin Allen recently described Campbell as his "£6 million man".  So why has he gone for £0.5million?

The same thing happened in 1972...John O'Mara signed for the then promotion rivals Blackburn Rovers...outcome ?...Blackburn promoted Brentford remain where they were. Brentford F.C have not changed their outlook for 34 years and you could argue for more than 60 years. Dennis Pigott the once secretary of Brentford once said..." We would rather be a mid-table 4th Division side than a struggling 3rd Division side." I feel as much as the supporters hopes are raised its the same old story.

To right Kevin...another example of Brentford being short sighted. Charlton could be beaten and a big game in the 6th round would be on. DJ would still be worth £500,000 at the end of the season if Bees were promoted and after the cup run.
