Clock at St Paul's Church

We moved to Brentford about 3 weeks ago and quite like the area.This morning I noticed that the clock at St Paul's Church is behind by about 12-15 minutes.Does anyone know how this can be changed?Shantanu

So this lady..royal lady..was apparently Queen Mary's Mother.Some of us will remember Queen Mary as she lived till 1953 and had been wife to George V...and together they produced George VI...husband of the late Queen Mother.Checking on Google, I see that Princess Mary Adelaide was born in 1833 (to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge)and later in 1866 she got married at Kew Church.  So with a year she was laying the foundation stone at the St Paul's Church.A couple of pictures of her are in cyberspace..I'll nip off and have a look for them!** At age of 13 yearsppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppLike me..she liked eating..and it is said that she was a bit chubby in later years.ppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppSo..another splendid occasion in Brentford!

St Lawrence has a fountain and a war memorial in front of it. The Church tower is a listed building.when I worked for LBH we had a plan to move the war memorial to the area out front of the library. I believe a space has been left for it.

"You think as a goodwill gesture (did I hear a strangled Pah! noise from the back, chaps?) Thames water could sponsor and maintain a few within the area for people to use!"... thanks for the received e-mail but - no - the annual broken water main does not count!

Hi Matt.Isn't there a public drinking fountain at the front of the derelict church in the High Street?  Maybe any development of the site should include renovating the fountain?  Does it have a preservation order on it?  Maybe the church has been knocked down; I haven't been along there recently.  Another photo opportunity for our Jim and his digital?You think as a goodwill gesture (did I hear a strangled Pah! noise from the back, chaps?) HelenYes I'd love to visit for lunch sometime..and to see the Church interior.hopefully take some pictures too.We are so lucky in Brentford..having so many interesting places to see...and different subjects to study. Thanks for the references Neil.

Not sure if the like the inside of the church. I do still remember the inside before the refurbishment.I hope they still have the Zoffany painting on view. This came out of St. Georges.

Hi Jim; a quick correction- the Open House community cafe is open to all; it's a fantastic, award winning cafe for everyone from local business people, staff from the courts, to local OAPs. A chance to see inside our beautiful church! Maybe post some pics of the cafe and interior of the Church on this site

SarahThe decline of public clocks is, I agree, a pity. It looks like we won't be getting our Lucozade one back for another year, and I can't think of any that are on display in the area at the moment.Drinking fountains are great things. There's one in St Pauls Recreation Ground near St Pauls Church that hasn't worked for years. Our Friends group has a bit of money to spend on the park - we've got a cleanup day in the Spring that you'll be hearing about soon - but the cost of getting it working (and vandal-proof) was too high to justify. I guess we're stuck with overpriced bottled water...

Hello Shantanu.  It is lovely that you noticed the clock and that it is running slow - don't you think there should be more clocks on the side of the modern buildings going up all around us?  and whilst we are about it ... how about lots of public drinking fountains too?(planning committees please take note!).Are there any other clocks in Brentford and Isleworth?

Hello Shantanu; welcome to Brentford...I've noticed that too about the clock. The Church is open during working hours, and you could ask in the office there, or on a Sunday, after the church service.alternatively The phone number for the Church office is 0208 568 7442. Helen
