Forum Software Bug

There is a bug in forum software which in particular conditions misses a Reply posting in the nested posting list.  It was last noted by Nigel on the New Brentford a couple of days ago.  Others have previously noted it on the forum.The forum software supplier should be notified.  If they cannot correct it now then they should correct it for the next software upgrade they issue.Will you reply to this message and keep the forum advised as to the progress of this error?

Most problems appear to me to stem not from the forum which is a pretty basic bit of code but the unnecessarily complex structure of the site itself which uses frames and sources content from two different domains. This shouldn't cause problems for 99% of users but there are always going to be some configurations that don't like it. It is probably uneconomic to make changes to resolve an issue that only affects a small proportion of users or in the case of the cookie mangling could be solved by the user changing the way they use the sites.

Well it works all right for most posters, nothing in life is 100% perfect and bug free neither is this forum, it’s not worth getting hot under the collar about it.

"The Forum is not without bugs, but that's not one of them"I beg to differ.I have submitted 2 postings which have not appeared on the forum listing.The first was 6 months ago.  The second was on Saturday.  Submitting a message is a straightforward process.  I am competent in spotting errors.  I use a lot of forums and haven't found this mistake in my use of these.

"Sometimes on a late Saturday evening...a NEW TOPIC can be submitted to the Brenford forum...but for some reason it ends up as a new topic on the Ealing Forum say."JimThis often happens when you have both of them open at the same time.  I find it is always best to close one down before submitting a posting to the other.

It was last noted by Nigel on the New Brentford a couple of days ago."If you mean Nigel Moore's post at 14.02.06 at 09.39, he was complaining about the position of his replies in the list, not that they were being missed out.  In fact this is not  a bug. The Forum worked as it is meant to do, but because Jim kept on sending further questions as "replies" to his own posts, Nigel's replies were positioned after Jim's sub-thread in each case.The Forum is not without bugs, but that's not one of them, though the layout of the thread summary could be improved.  Jim's problem with posts landing up on the wrong Forum arises, I think, from having more than one window open at the same time to different Forums.  The software gets very confused about which Forum you're logged into.Similar requests for improvement of the Forum have gone unanswered elsewhere, so don't hold your breath!

Michael; Good points.I'm not technically minded at all..but I find that sometimes a submitted reply is added to the end of the threads..but that the addition of 1 is not added to the total of postings on a particular subject.So a TOPIC  may have 101 messages..but only 99 is shown on the scorecard!Sometimes on a late Saturday evening...a NEW TOPIC can be submitted to the Brenford forum...but for some reason it ends up as a new topic on the Ealing Forum say.The search forum facility is another area..that could be clarified..and enhanced.
