Asbestos

It was common place to use asbestos sheets for roofing and sheds a number of years ago.Does anyone know where I can find out if the sheets can just be put in a skip or taken to the tip, or whether they have to be disposed of by a specialist contractor?Photographs in next posting.

"There is no measurable risk from the asbestos in asbestos cement.  You do not need a special contractor to remove it.  You can do it yourself but will need to ask the local authority about free tipping"

Thanks Barry.  I have e-mailed links to a series of photos to the contact address.I spoke to a neighbour last night and she reminded me that her garage roof is made of the same material - and then I remembered the house we used to live at, nearby, had the same!  The owners developed the house last year, so it has gone.  Wonder if this is picked up by the Council surveyors when the planning applications are made?None of these houses had garages when they were built so they were added at a time when this was the 'in' building material for garage and outhouse roofs.
