Does anyone ever win on the Premium bonds?

We have taken to throwing things at the TV set when Alan Sugar tells us how easy it is to win on the premium bonds.  I have never won - son has a small holding for 21 years and has never won - and recently we had to check on a bond which had been forgotten about since 1953 - and Ernie has forgotten it too!Neighbour in the next street, when a new postie was practising with the mail, put her letter through our door (neighbours for 3 streets exchange Christmas cards now!) and she popped around to thank me as it was a  £50 win – I forgot to ask her how many decades she had held the bond which won.  :-(

Actually the bulk of the winners listed on that website appear to have holdings of around £30,000 which is the maximum you are allowed.  How nice to be able to forget about £30,000 and just collect the winnings.  Shows that old expression is correct, money goes to money.Incidentally on the comment about local authorities winning, the site doesn't list the names of the winners only the area they live in i.e. L.B. Ealing etc, and I note that the L.B. Hounslow rarely shows a winner so perhaps it is an unlucky borough for its residents!

Also on the website you can see on the winners list, how much of a holding each winner has and how long they have held the winning bond for - interesting stuff - it is rarely people who only hold a few £1 bonds...

I won £100 last year and £50 a few years ago, but I'm still waiting for the big one! They always say that it is the ones with the high amounts, ie. £10,000, £20,000 holdings that win on a regular basis. If you check the website, it is interesting to note that the high winners include a lot of local authorities and they win regularly - so they're getting some money coming in!!! I wonder what it's being spent on?

The web site for NS&I is pretty good.  If you have a holder’s number then you can check if you have won onhttp://www.nsandi.com/products/pb/haveYouWon.jspThe bond we had to check on from 1953, didn't even have a name on it.  Bit silly that, but maybe it is different these days?  We wrote off, snail mail, and had to give the names it might be registered in.  They wrote back telling us whose bond it was, and that it hadn't won since issue.If any of you now write off and find that you have won - how’s about a donation to the Starlight Ward?  ;-)

I've just discovered that I've had some of these for about 35 years, but no luck as yet.  How long are we supposed to give it?

We bought a few a couple of years ago and I think the minimum purchase is £100 these days.I have never checked to be honest if we have won but would hope they contact any winners?

We can all live in hope.  I received some as a wedding present some 30 plus years ago.  I do remember a win of about £500 after the first five years but all this did was go towards paying off an overdraft so no real impact to my life!  Just waiting - or should I say still waiting, for that big win.
