Phil Andrews said"even by a book on grammer"Or even buy a book on grammar?Bernadette saidHello Collette,You're not Anabelle Stone are you?By the way, you could probably do with a dictionary and spell check too!Sarah saidNice to meet you, so to speak - but Simon's posts have achieved a posting from you! So, what else can you say?It would make things a bit livelier if some of the viewers chipped in - does anyone want a 'Tips on how to do it' thread? I mean - it took me a while to work out how to get rid of the e-mails telling me there was another posting after I signed up!With all these camera phones there is no reason why we shouldn’t have an array of pictures being posted – by the way chaps – I have just been given a camera phone …James saidCollette,Please don't take this the wrong way but.... when you criticise other posters' spelling you have to be very careful to ensure that your own spelling is immaculate! Otherwise you could be accused by some of adding to the "utter rubbish" on this forum! Here are some examples from your posting:advidchriticsmexassperateparticularyuncessaryby a book on grammer....or is your posting a joke? In which case I missed the point and I apologise!I think the best policy is to try and build constructive relationships with our fellow posters. We all have the best interests of Brentford at heart.Paul saidI`m inclined to agree that "collette" is one of our old friends on here and is just a wind up.For someone to criticise other posters spelling and grammer without checking "her" own would be just plain careless.Using a capital c for "Collette" would be a good start?Colin saidBefore you start, it's not me!Colin saidBut some of her points are valid...Lynn saidThe forum is for everyone to use. If you don't like Simons posts, then just skip them, but I don't see why he shouldn't post just because you aren't interested. Anyway, we've been here before - do a search & you'll find a whole thread about this & I'm sure you'll find that opinions haven't changed since then.Lynn saidAlso it seems a strange topic for a first time poster to pick. First time posters normally join in on the forum rather than attack existing posters...very odd.Justin saidIt is hard to work out whether this post is an inspired parody - if it is it's hilarious - or a nasty anonymous attack which has badly backfired due to the ignorance of the poster - if it is it's hilarious.Collette saidIm sorry to all the doubting thomas's out there. My post was genuine, I am genuine and I stand by what I say when I agree with all the recent 'pointless' posts Simon has posted. Including when he chooses to reply to some posts and conduct conversations which I felt more appropriate to be responded to via the individual's private email address, and not for all and sundry to have to read and cringe at. That is possible, is it not? Im just raising my point that some people on here are all too fond of 'blowing their own trumpets' and we do not need to be constantly reminded of all the great work. Lots of people do good work, but dont ramm it down everyone elses throat. And if thats sounds harsh, I thought this forum was all about freedom of speech? I and my friends do alot of great work for charity but we dont need to feel like we have to constantly patted on the back for doing just that. We do it, and get on with it.Mike saidPersonally I feel Bill Posters should be prosecuted !Jim saidWelcome to the Brentford Forum Collette...pleased to hear that you are a regular viewer!!When you see someone seemingly spoiling your favourite publication/pastime..it's quite understandable to want to make a complaint..even if you have never done so before.Well done for being brave...knowing that sharpshooters would be hanging around!!I was a bit disappointed that many responses just attacked your spelling rather than respond to the heart of the matter. You were quite right to express your point of view, which seems to be compatible with mine. There's been a gradual build up of my disquiet over some 12 months....more recently about the wasted headline space...and then that dreadful new topic arrived.I couldn't resist complaining before it got too far out of hand. With 32 TOPICS out of 200, distasteful postings..at a time when the Forum was receiving more visits from new viewers than ever...I was surprised that my TW7 didn't support the outcry either.Thank goodness David had set the ball rolling and thanks to Victor and Nigel for reponding too..not that their questions or recommendations received answered. Simon just got more angry! Many of us click onto the Forum to see something interesting, funny, or to follow a good debate. Knowing that the Forum has been hard work over the last couple of years getting itself established as a respectable medium..I felt that the issue should not be allowed to deteriorate further. The "spot the difference topic" deserved a suspension IMHO..or certainly a caution..especially after all that had gone on before. So Collette..welcome..and lets hear more!Paul saidMy sincere apologies Collette if I was wrong in my assumptions about you being a "real" person but this messageboard does unfortunatly have its fair share of hoaxers and perhaps my suspicious mind was working overtime! For what its worth,I have sometimes wondered why Simon does not continue to use one of his own particular threads to keep us updated on his many projects rather than mix them up on others where they could be lost.I still believe sincerely that he means no harm though and hope he returns soon to this board.Lynn said"I was a bit disappointed that many responses just attacked your spelling rather than respond to the heart of the matter." If you re-read Collette's original posting, you will find it is she who has condemned someone else's spelling & grammar &, therefore, laid herself wide open to criticism herself. James summed it up perfectly - "when you criticise other posters' spelling you have to be very careful to ensure that your own spelling is immaculate!"I do not think much of the content of Collette's post contributes towards "the heart of the matter" as you put it. It just sounds like a personal attack to me. I am very happy to debate a topic when presented as a debatable issue, but not when a posting just appears to be attacking one person.Andrew saidJim,I'm all for freedom of speach and all that, but you can't start criticising someone about their spelling and grammer if you can't get it right yourself. Collette (if she is genuine) has posted twice now and on both occasions there have been basic faults with both. I agree with those that have cast doubt over the fact that this person may not be genuine. Jim saidIf you look at the Labour Letter thread..and the serious question about Mr Bob Wearing..you'll see an inappropriate posting from Simon (in my view) and subsequent exchanges. Those messages explain the "heart of the matter"..in my view!Phil saidJimI believe "Collette" to be an assumed name used by somebody who is trying to take advantage of what he perceives to be a spat between yourself and Simon in order to launch an attack on him which he is not prepared to do under his own name, and to attempt thereby to exacerbate the division. I see much resemblance between "her" posting and those of Barney Rogerson and Annabel Stone a couple of months back.Personally I do not see the debate between yourself and Simon as anything more than two decent people having a legitimate disagreement over what is an issue of concern to all of us. But there are those who will have seen an opportunity to try to turn it into something worse.Lynn and others are right, if you attack somebody's spelling and grammar by means of a posting which itself contains at least twelve elementary errors you are going to get panned for it, just as if I were to accuse you of being overweight you would most likely pass some remark about my own svelte-like physique in your own defence, and rightly so too.To make one's first posting a personal attack on a regular user of the forum demonstrates to me an astounding lack of humility. Unlike yourself who, as a regular and valued contributor, has earned the right to criticise.
