Yeah well if that happens you can say "I told you so" and I'll be kicking myself for not betting. I guess I just think that voting inclinations are a bit different in Hounslow Borough after the outcome of the last General Election in B&C.  Dakers pushed the Lib Dem share well up whilst Keen's clear fall.  I really think being an all round nice bloke might not be enough for any candiate here, no matter what party they stand for. I sense a "I am totally sick of Labour" attitude locally and a large part of that is Ann Keen's fault. Its tough on Matt Harmer, but the one with the profile appears to be Mr Sheerins.  Whilst I have always leaned Lib Dem I think the Conservatives and the Lib Dems will batter Labour here. I think its less to do with Prescott and Clarke media circuses, more to do with Ann Keen.  The charge of complacency and arrogance has stuck and its been used againt the local representatives. I realise people do vote differently from national elections and generally see the issues apart. However, i think that this local election has become less local as time has gone on. In addition this area is changing fast,  it is not impossible that with the change in population profile in Brentford over the last four years that voter loyalty has diminished.  We're all supposing that most Labour voters will turn out and stick with them no matter what. In Brentford Ward I don't think its improbable that we end up with two Labour and one Lib Dem. But it could be just one Labour, one Lib Dem, one Tory, and that I feel that might be good thing for us if it happened.I just feel things have conspired against any clean sweep and one of the three Labour Candidates are not going to get elected.  What are your bets?  Which one won't it be?  Either way we'll know around 2.30am I understand.  Well, according to Press Assocation that is!

JamesOwing to the seriousness of this alleged incident I am breaking my own self-imposed ban to post a few comments.  I don't intend to enter into a discussion about what may or may not have happened because until all the facts are known we can all only speculate.Firstly let me say that if this was genuinely an attack on Ms. Sampson then I and all my ICG colleagues completely, unreservedly condemn it and would join you in your hope that the perpetrators will be brought swiftly to justice.  This kind of thing has no place in local politics, and we will not tolerate it in Isleworth.  Ms. Sampson is the mother of three children, and as a father myself I would have nothing but absolute contempt for anybody who was prepared to engage in such an act.I have highlighted the above and would respectfully implore those making further posts on this thread to remind themselves of it when this posting is responded to with the inevitable criticism. However, I would simply urge posters to consider all possibilities.  Any political opponent who indulged in an attack of this kind would not only be a maniac, but also a fool.  The timing was precisely such that it is likely to make headline news in the election-day Chronicle, too close to the deadline for anybody else to be interviewed for a comment.  Such publicity must inevitably have the effect of casting suspicion upon Ms. Sampson's opponents.Tonight it was even featured in the London Evening Standard, in a piece which all but accused me of having perpetrated the act and about which I will be seeking legal advice as soon as the election is over.I understand that Ann Keen MP was on hand at very short notice to visit Ms. Sampson shortly after the incident when she was being visited by reporters and, whilst I'm sure this was unintentional, this would have had the effect of raising its profile and newsworthiness. And yet, quite apart from the indefensibility of the alleged act itself, there could be no possible political advantage to be gained from it.  The ICG in Isleworth has been streets ahead of Labour throughout the campaign, and neither the Conservatives nor the Liberal Democrats are targeting it.  Although nobody is saying it, I detect from most of the comments on this thread a latent suspicion that the ICG was in some way responsible.  It most certainly was not.As one of Ms. Sampson's main opponents in the election I was expecting the police to want to interview me this morning, but as nobody came calling I went to see them.  I expressed my view in no uncertain times that whatever actually happened a serious crime has been committed and I would expect them to pursue their investigations to a successful conclusion.  I will be reminding them of this at regular intervals over the coming days and weeks. It is fortunate that the firebomb would appear to have exploded harmlessly by some wheelie bins rather than having been thrown through a window.  I am also pleased that, although she was understandably shaken by the incident, Ms. Sampson had recovered sufficiently to hold a party with several of her political associates in her front garden this evening.  In conclusion, if through my words I sound unsympathetic I am sorry.  Whatever some people may think, or profess to think, I am not a wicked or vindictive person and I sincerely desire for political debate in my community to be conducted honestly, openly, decently and amicably.  Anybody who throws a petrol bomb at the home of a political opponent is in my view scum and should locked away for a very long time. However, as one who has already for several weeks been one of the victims of by far the most nasty and dishonest election campaign that I have ever had the misfortune to encounter, I am not going to simply accept this story at face value without considering the possibility that there may be other explanations.  At the same time I am not discounting the possibility that this may indeed have been a political attack, or even a non-political attack.  All I am saying is that until the police investigation is concluded one needs to retain an open mind.I apologise in advance to anybody whom that may offend, but it is my sincerely held view and I am sticking by it.

Quoted from the Griffin Park Grapevine:PRESS RELEASE from BIAS (Brentford Independent Association of Supporters) and ABeeC.Date: Thursday 6 April 2006ABeeC, the political party formed by Brentford Independent Association of Supporters (BIAS), believes it has achieved the key aims and objectives highlighted during its 2002 Campaign and, as a result, will not be fielding candidates at the forthcoming Local Authority elections in Hounslow Borough.Over the last four years ABeeC councillor Luke Kirton has successfully campaigned on a number of issues directly relating to Brentford FC's profile in the local community, and the delivery of improved sports, leisure and recreational facilities.Hounslow Council and Brentford FC are now working in partnership for delivery of a new community stadium. Although there is progress to be made before the Club has secured a new site, it is not felt that the relationship between the Council and the Football Club is proving an obstacle to these aspirations.Brentford FC's preference for a new stadium is at Lionel Road, and whilst this is not Council-owned land, Hounslow Council have, in their position as the Local Planning Authority, let it be known that they look favourably on the Football Club's plans for the site. The Club's ambitions are reflected in the Council's own policy documents, as evidenced in the Brentford Area Action Plan which states that the council would welcome consideration of a sports stadium, plus enhancement of community and leisure facilities in the Lionel Road area.A key area of concern to ABeeC was the provision for more general sports and leisure in Hounslow Borough. ABeeC welcomes the establishment of a new sports forum and strategy and the recent pledge to deliver a series of sports hubs spread across the Borough.Hounslow Council have recently loaned the Club £0.5m, a crucial step in enabling Bees Utd the Supporters Trust to acquire the majority stake in Brentford FC and this further cements the relationship between the Supporters' Trust and the Local Authority.ABeeC have invigorated local democracy with hustings for the Greater London Assembly and will hope to continue do so for these forthcoming local elections and beyond.Councillor Luke Kirton has been an active participant in a number of wider community initiatives. He has sat on the Football In The Community management committee, which has recently succeeded in acquiring Charitable Trust status. The Scheme’s groundbreaking work was recently nationally recognised with the award as the Football League's Community "Club of the Year"Councillor Kirton has also sat on the steering group that helped establish the Griffin Park Learning Zone which has won numerous accolades for its inspirational work with local schoolchildren.ABeeC and BIAS will remain vigilant and continue to monitor relations between the Football Club and the Local Authority. Whilst ABeeC are satisfied that the current administration are fully supportive of Brentford FC it is aware that the political climate can easily change. ABeeC will be seeking to ensure support from all political parties on Hounslow Council.http://www.griffinpark.org/forums/showthread.php?t=40969
