Crime Statistics

Sometime ago I tried to get our Local Labour Councillors and the Police to do somthing about the appalling level of crime in Brentford. I even organised a meeting at the Lord Nelson Pub at which our Councillor and the Police asked local people to join what they called a Crime Cabinet. Since then no one has heard from either our Councillors or the Police crime comtinues at levels even worse than before and it is worthy of note that one set of published statistics on this web site showed that crime in Brentford was worse than any other London Borough. The residents of Enfield Walk have given up on the promissed kissing gates to stop motor bikes using it as cut through and theives as a getaway route. None of this should come as shock when the borough Police Commander Ali Dizael stands byand watches a young man who went to the aid of woman being attackedcharged while the thug is allowed to walk off and while one member of the Council Committee for Isleworth and Brentford was worried that the gates proposed for Enfield Walk would stop vehicle access it was clear that she did not even know where Enfield Walk was or that vehicles apart from motor cycles cannot access it anyway. I think any fair minded person would agree that both our local labour Councillors and The Police have demonstrated a level of contempt for the residents of Brentford which is quite unparallelledin my exprince. So please bear this in mind when they come knocking on your door asking for your vote

Robert, good luck with this thread but there are some on this sight that will imply that you are having a go at the area, the police, and are trying to induce panic in the local population by highlighting what is a fact of life for some people in the parish. I, unlike some others on this thread, have not lived in Brentford for donkeys years so have some experience of the levels crime,particularly violent crime,of other areas and, yes, I think it is higher here than Hanwell, Acton and Preston where I have also lived.The old chestnut about'there is not more crime, we just hear about it more' is true to a small extent but we have had pretty a comprehensive and ,some would say, intrusive media in this country,both nationally and locally for many years.

Lets be clear I am not knocking Brentford. The point I was trying to make is having set-up and attended a meeting along with 150 fellow residents on crime in the area of Enfield Road both Police and our Councillor failed to follow through with the undertakings they made. As for statistics on the mets site they change every month and stats I refered to were published on ths site. Lastly what prompted me to post a message on the forum was to remind all those who attended the meeting of the fact that Councillor Edwards or any of his fellow Labour party cronies have not been seen since and with the up-comming local elections I thought it oppertune to remind my fellow residents of these facts as for Harlesden all we have to do is do nothing and say things in Brentford are not that bad and soon we to will suffer the same level of crime.

I agree with your basic point which the figures on the Met web site clearly proves. Perhaps Robert should nip up to Harlesden and then he might start to appreciate Brentford a bit. It was however slightly worrying to see the burglary numbers - as has been pointed out if so many people live in flats in the area - which are much less likely to be burgled - the people living in houses are at much greater risk.

Robert, the figures for crime on a ward by ward basis are now available on the Met web site. They give out figures based on crime reports related to 1000 population. Brentford is above the Met average for burglary and criminal damage as well as violence against the person but in no instance is this significantly above. It is below the Met average for robbery and theft as well as drugs offences. In other words the figures in no way support your claim that Brentford is a uniquely bad area for crime. You can't prove that it is by citing specific incidents of crime. Nobody is denying that crime takes place here and one crime is one too many but you lose a lot of credibility by making exaggerated claims based on ancient articles on this web site. You can't hope to improve a place by doing it down.If anyone is interested in the numbers go to www.met.police.uk and click on the link to crime figures.

First the statistics are not mine they were published by the met police. Second the motorbike issue was specfic to Enfield Walk and was raised by elderly and disabled residents of the sheltered housing there, they were promissed these gates and never got them and it was not one or two motorbikes it was groups late at night racing up and down. As for exaggeration try telling the three knife point mugging victims in Windmill Lane or the Bookmaker robbed at gun point or better still any of my nighbours who have had their home robbed or my wife who found our home in bits and your right we are not wealthy people if we were we might get a decent police service

Strangely  – we are on Brentford’s border and we had a gun crime in this road a short while ago.  Our door bell (wireless) went off in the early hours and I looked out the window to see a police car blocking the road and tape everywhere.  We then heard tales of fast response cars and there was a forensic team.  I will never forget the look on my neighbours face as she arrived home to find the road closed and a crime scene outside her house.Gossip confirmed (!) there had been an armed robbery but there was no mention of it anywhere else

Brentford isn't a high crime area. Yes we have a few local scumbags but we are not wealthy enough to attract in scumbags from other areas so we get off quite lightly. We have lots of flats compared to houses so burglars have slim-pickings in the area. Exaggerated claims about crime don't help anybody and if the worse you can come up with is motor bikes using the pavement that suggests things aren't that bad.

If you could find a specific reference for the page Robert that would be appreciated. I am not disputing that we have crime here just that we are one of the worst areas of London. I've lived here a long time and apart from a burglary ages ago have not been a victim of crime or even witnessed a serious crime. Anecdotally friends in Shepherd's Bush and East London give me the impression we are relatively well off in this regard. This of course is no reason not to put pressure on the authorities to reduce crime further.

The stats were published on this site late last year. I dont know whereabouts in Brentford you are but in the area I live Enfield Road/ Windmill Road we have had knife point muggings 3no in the last month and 2no gun point robbriescar crime and burgalry are an everyday occurance

What was the statistic that showed Brentford was worse than any other borough? Have to say I doubt that we are particularly badly hit by crime here compared to other areas of London.
