I was sorry to read about this. He always struck me as a nice guy.http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/4922314.stm

Saw Jack Charlton in a Carling ad recently (Carling don't do pub teams) and he looked fairly spry for a man in his 70s. There is no denying that it is a high pressure job however.John Lyall was a real gent and with people like him and Trevor Brooking at the club most fans have a soft spot for West Ham and are really delighted to see them doing well. Alan Pardew is of a different mould but given the stick he took initially I'm really pleased to see him doing so incredibly well.

A lot of football managers seem to die young. Is it the pressures of the job?

This news has come as a bit of a shock. John Lyall was not only a graet manager but a true gentleman. I became a West Ham supporter at the same time as he took over as the manager and throughout the 70's and 80's saw some of the graetest players ever to wear the claret and blue shirt. The style of football that he encouraged then is still encouraged now and long may it continue. This is a truely sad day for West Ham and football.
