Fulcrum Challenge - 2006

Hello, I am Alex Felstead and I have just won a place on the Fulcrum challenge, Heathrow 2006.I have to raise £1950 via fund raising in order to complete the Challenge. Every year students who take part in the Challenge rely on generous sponsorship or financial support by friends, family, the public and businesses.Can you help me?  I need donations and I also need contacts within companies which might be prepared to make a donation – and any suggestions as to how I could raise this money would be gratefully received!Please read on …

Alex had a reply on W4 from someone who took part in the 2005 Fulcrum Challenge.  They teens go to extreme areas of the Country to live amongst people who often have not seen travellers before.  My other 2 sons have also been on the challenge and came back with tales of a village which was so poor it didn't even have a name and where a pint down the London local, would pay for the whole villages food for a month.  Whilst out there they do building work and help out where they can.The chap running it John Hunt, is an inspirational leader and the groups come back older and wiser in years from having just had a couple of weeks in his company.If anyone has any contacts with companies who might be approached for sponsorship, there are 4 boys and 5 girls from the 2 local schools (The Green school and Isleworth & Syon) trying to raise their money.Thanks. In October this year the Fulcrum group will be visiting the poorest area of India, the Rann of Katchchh.Families in the Rann work on salt flats in temperatures of up to 50C with their nearest water supply a 14 mile cycle away, a job for the children. The Salt Workers are paid £60 per year, roughly 1p per 1000 kilogram of salt produced. Visiting this area will be a life changing and challenging experience for me.Fulcrum Challenge is a Leadership Development Programme aimed at developing future leadership skills in students as well as helping those in dire need.On finishing the Challenge I will be granted with a Certificate of Personal Effectiveness, equivalent to an ‘A’ grade AS level or 70 UCAS points. The Fulcrum Challenge is a registered charity (1072830) so donations can be gift aided.I look forward to hearing from you.Regards,Alex
