I think we'd all be amazed if we were told the number of accidents on the Great West Road..over all the years. The number of fatals must be 20 or so in the past 10 years. The traffic jams can sometimes be colossal. I remember a year or two back the GWR being closed for 5-6 hours following an accident at Lampton Corner. It was nightmare. It hadn't been fatal either. The recent "three accidents at the same time" posting that I made recently..had a sad ending. It was ONE ACCIDENT spread over THREE INCIDENTS being investigated by Police.Sadly a cyclist was riding his bike near the Ealing Road junction..and he was killed outside the New England Pub by a passing van.  As I understand it, the cycle itself was wedged in the grill of the van..and the didn't stop..but carried on. The bike fell off the van...or was taken off further along the GWR on the Grand Union Canal Bridge..and that's where I saw the mangled bike. Then some 100 metres before the Gillette Corner traffic lights...it seems that the van had been stopped by motorists...and that was another reason for lane closures..and flashing blue lights everywhere. We hear of drivers being on the road who are either banned, or not insured..or their vehicles not MOT'd..and so its good to see Police Blockades in the region pulling over "suspects" for questioning. Some years back... would you believe...there were incomers in the area who were getting friends or family members to take their driving test for them. Thank goodness the scam was discovered and an appearance at Kingston Court arranged for some of them!! William won't like me mentioning that!
