is the high street still closed in places?

we are going to the fete today - have you drove through brentford this morning and is it still closed off - if yes then whereabouts exactly is the closure? anyone thanks

But motorists are still queuing up Spur Road and Syon Lane..because the diversion signs haven't been removed yet!

Here are Tuesdays pictures at last..in case you are following the pictorial story of the Brentford, London Road mains water leak.The hole was filled in on Tuesday but not quite to the top..in preparation for the "underlay" and then tarmac!.  In addition, on Tuesday evening, a team of workmen were seen  ..with machinery and lorries ....busy removing the surface of the damaged roadway...prior to retarmacing. It might all be a right pain - but we have to accept that these works are really necessary - we hardly want a bridge collapsing do we - work now delayed until June 5th. I'd be surprised if a bus could even get down Linkfield Road humps or not.

And when that's done they shut down St. Johns Road for the next 6-12 months. Personally I'm looking forward to seeing the buses that have been diverted down Linkfield Road negotiating the rather vicious speed humps!!

Unable to bring you pictures for the moment..as that cyberspace facility seems to have broken down tonight...in my case anyway!However..the big hole has now been almost filled to the top ..with aggregate etc..or whatever it is that is used..and tomorrow Wednesday..the hole will be further filled and sealed with the  "tarmac underlay"!!Repairs are being made this evening to the road surface ..around a larger area..in preparation for Thursdays tarmacing of the whole site and surrounds.So 2 more days of hold-ups..and the workmen tonight reckoned that the job will be finished Thursday evening or early Friday.  No official announcements..although the Civic Centre website does say "One Week >> Thursday"

Have all the emergency duty workmen had a day off today..as nothing seems to have been done for 24 hours...and I suspect that the inconvenience to road users is going to go on longer than was hoped?We know that the replacement pipe has been fitted..together with the seals..but the earth and soil around the damage still needs to be sorted.  The hole in the road is uncovered  for some good reason..even when its likely to rain!!ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooWhen I took these photos this evening..a passing pedestrian..told me that there was still a lot to do. He was a surveyor..working with the Council..and he said that the wet soil needed to be removed..and the hole filled with layers and layers of compacted material. It was essential for this filling in work to be done properly to avoid the new road surface from collapsing.oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooI was told that in adjacent Beech Avenue... Council House occupiers were helped last Thursday to fight the flood with pumping machines and sludge cleaners.  Private homes were told to contact their insurance companies..and sort the urgent mess out themselves!! One poor chap had water seeping through the air holes of his home ..with water running under the floorborsds.  Really?  Any Syon Councillors have any information. Are these locals being looked after and will they get compensation?ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooIn the meantime, the London Road..looking westwards towards Busch Corner...looked forelorn without its customery traffic.oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooAnd up at Gillette Corner..the diverted traffic from Busch Corner..wanting to turn right in the Great West Road...is being further hampered and delayed by an unfriendly green filter light...that seems to stay on for only 5 seconds!It needs attention.

Checked out the ROAD WORKS tonight..and the hole certainly looks longer than before. But that was probably necessary to enable the new pipe to be fitted more easily.  The broken up old pipe has been removed from the scene. The good news is that the new blue plastic 800mm pipe has been fitted..together with the seals at each end.  The sound of gentle running water can be heard at a manhole cover close to the hole...and so progress continues.  As water pressure in the pipe is increased..so the quality of the new seals can be checked. No point filling in the hole..without checking that matter first!  The road will still be closed tomorrow..no doubt..but there could be opening possibilities for Tuesday night..provided the road repair is done swiftly. More likely Wednesday to be honest. Any advice from the professionals?

When I saw the cops car flying towards the big hole this afternoon..I thought that someone must have nicked the new section of plastic piping.!!oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooBut no..all is well...except that the new pipe hasn't been fitted yet. Big diggers have arrived on the scene..and it appears that they are making the hole larger..perhaps to make the replacement exercise more easy.oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooAway from the calm of the worksite..the traffic queues seem dreadful. Gillette Corner was under pressure...and an adjustment to the timing on the filter light (on green) from the south..would seem needed.ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooThe incident is a major inconvenience to many people..and fine attention to some of the traffic detail could be needed.

London Road is closed at the junction of Beech Ave. This means that you can only gain local access from either the High St or Busch Corner. You cannot drive directly through but must either use the A4 or A316. See the other posts regarding this & Jim's photos.
