Cllr Paul Fisher elected Chair of Brentford Area Committee
With some 31 people in the audience tonight, Cllr Paul Fisher (Community Isleworth), was elected Chairman of the Isleworth and Brentford Area Committee (in his absence!!)Cllr Jonathan Hardy(Community Syon) was elected Vice Chairman. What a start to the meeting!!So Paul will Chair Monitoring meetings and Jonathan will Chair planning meetings. Jonathan did an impressive job tonight and his style of verbal delivery provided everyone with a competant umbrella under which to participate. The setting is very comfortable...the Free Church Hall in Boston Manor Road..and the team/committee looked live and well..and it all was a treat. In a line..Ruth and Matt (Lab)....Sheila, Barbara and John (Con)...Genevieve,Caroline and Phil (Community)...Andrew (Lib Dem)..and finally Jonathan in the Chair. (Paul and Shirley sent apologies)Personally I was most impressed by all the input by this group...and several were outstanding. If only you had seen how hard they work! But most of all, the Civic Centre's Head of Development Control, Cathy Gallagher was amazing. She was on the go all evening...aided by an assistant on the AV..She introduce each subject, and responded to all of the Councillors' questions and observations...in a very competant and knowledgeable way. It wasn't boring at all..An education in fact.Kath took the minutes at 100mph and there were other administrators there too. News about the Lucozade advert, planned security shutters at the old Isleworth Odeon, the ugly unaccepted plans for the Alfa-Laval site (there used to be a cricket pitch on that land once!)..the plans for Isleworth Kings Arms Pub were all discussed. That developement in Thornbury Road..the ugly shop front..got the chop..but most of all it was the Alfa Laval site proposals that were the major concern. Those plans were rejected. Poor Bernadette would have been alarmed..but there is hope that the Brook Road North/South pedestrian bridge over the railway will be sorted out one day...a new straight one ..no bends..or hidden corners!!The Committee..and the Council are much concerned by the illegal flourescent adverts on the Great West Road..and this will be a main task at the next meeting. Andrew mentioned the Las Vagas comparisions..with all the coloured lights. Barbara said that this main thoroughfare..both into and out of London..and through our area..should be developed into something we are proud of..and not less.I think this group will go places!
