A hazard to passing traffic located in Church Street,Old Isleworth

Many many motorists over the years will have cursed.Their vehicle tyre has been damaged or ripped by a nasty piece of protruding metal ..lurking out of view ..waiting to harm their passage. Indeed, maybe they are unaware of the damage that has been done.It's in Church Street..a popular thoroughfare to the London Apprentice, Syon Park, West Middlesex Hospital..or en route to Busch Corner.One side of the base ....of the keep left sign.... is fine. The left hand side of the base is lethal to tyres. Best look at the pictures.It's been like that for years..it's time the poor workmanship was corrected.See next message. ...well done in getting it fixed - I did laugh at your comment about the mess, Jim - a pothole was fixed after the grand tour a couple of weeks ago - and they managed to leave a trail of tarmacy oil all across the adjoining pavement! ... Beggars can't be choosers.  ;-)

It seems that pictures convey the message much better than words sometimes.  So we must be grateful for the technology!That nasty sharp piece of metal has now been shielded away from approaching car tyres..innocent car tyres too. Thanks for persuing that Cllr Paul Fisher. The good news is  that the Highways Department will be attending to that width restriction hazard shortly.  I met some supervisors yesterday and they were "on the job".So, yes the Bridge has been narrowed....and one of the streets has been made one-way. oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooAs you say the road at the London Apprentice is a width restriction too!..and must be a hazard during the rush hour...and at other times too.ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooDelightful area though!

I echo your thoughts Michael; you have hit the nail on the head! extremely hazardous stretch of road for all; I used to cycle along there to work, but felt very unsafe along there, now I walk, but don't feel that much safer...maybe it could be made one way? or just pedestrianised. it is certainly too narrow for traffic in both directions

Thanks Paul.  I was going to report it a month ago when I noticed it as I go through that street regularly.  I'm in the Syon ward and it's good to know that the administration is on the ball in that area.

Jim, the whole length of the street is a traffic hazard.  On the East to West approach up the rise past the church and before the London Apprentice cars park which effectively limits road width to one car.  The dip restricts visibility to drivers in both directions. If that area of a couple of cars is restricted there will be an improvement in throughput and safety.  Now there is a good chance of a head-on collision.  As for cyclists and pedestrians....The road after the London Apprentice has always been the same.  However one car is very regularly parked there which again restricts access on the road.Now the very worst.... recently the bridge has been narrowed and the pedestrian pavement extended.  This is a death trap for cars in either direction - this is after the traffic bollards you point out.  There could be a real head-on collision at the bridge crossing point.  The likelihood of this is increased by the acute left corner in a west -to-east direction to the bridge.This road supports a high volume of traffic trying to sneak by the main BuschCorner to Twickenham Road and access St Margarets Road with its access to Richmond and Twickenham.It's a scene which is set-engineered by transport planners for accidents.  There is of course a simple way to improve safety here.

Jim you are right, that has been a hazard for many years, even I remember it! All looks quite charming along there these days. Sad about the graffiti though.

You'll recognise this obstacle in Church Street when you come across it.    But you'll be concentrating on squeezing through!oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooYour front offside tyre is very likely to be given a nasty shock!oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooThe nasty corner end of the tough metal awaits!!ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooYou can see how much the metal has worn down over the years...by rubber tyres.  Just think of the damage to tyre walls....damaged tyre walls are lethal!  ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooIn my view, this danger should have been sorted out long ago. With digital camera evidence, Community Forums and a bit of technology..I hope that this matter will be dealt with promptly. Do you agree it's  a local hazard?It's probably cost £thousands to motorists over the years.
