Lord Mayor of Hounslow 1971

Jim, have you any reference books that give you the name of Hounslow’s Lord Mayor In June 1971?I’m trying to piece a newspaper article together from that date but the Mayors name is missing.

I was interested to note that the late Fred Powe was Mayor in 1971. I understand Fred was a councillor more or less continuously from 1928 to 1982 serving on Middlesex County Council as well as Hounslow where he stood down from Cranford Ward in 1982. He lived in the Warren in Heston and remained politically active in his old age.

PaulDo you think that they may move the main Library back to the Civic Centre...and install it in the New Lampton Conference Centre?I believe some Conservatives had suggested changing the Conference Centre's planned activities...if they had the chance!

I'll have to be quick Jim, There closing that part of the Library for the whole of July and I haven’t got to much free time to get there before hand, unless they can transfer it over to Chiswick.

You're correct Vanessa.Jim I'll contact Hounslow library on monday to see if they have a list of Hounslow Mayors, if they have I'll try and post it on here.

I'm sure you're correct Vanessa..it's just Mayor of Hounslow.Paul: If you are able to get a list of previous Mayor's..it would be interesting to post it here. Anyone remember Ray Padley...and before him Cecil Pocock?Neil: Thanks for the lead about that statuette (?) being of the young Queen Victoria..became Queen in 1837 and had her Coronation in 1838.  Is the Carville Hall House 1838ish one wonders?

As far as I know Hounslow (and any other London Borough for that matter)does not have a Lord Mayor - we only warrant a Mayor. I think only cities get Lord Mayors.

JimI think its a young Queen Victoria. Shes holding what looks to be a State Orb and is wearing a crown. Shes lost part of the arm which I suppose was holding a septere.

Thanks for that Neil....and for information about the house.ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooIt looks like social housing to me these days..dirty windows, unswept areas..and pathway edges untidy. However, stop grumbling Lawes! But the park was being well used when I called in there to have a look at that hidden park.So, Neil, who might this be..perched high up on the building ?

Paul - Ring James Marshall at Hounslow Library, he's the Local Studies Librarian.Carville hall and Park was purchased using money from Brentford Council's War Memorial Committee as a war memeorial hall and park.A house was on the site before 1777 as its on a 1777 map although the present house is early 19th century. It was owned by a family called Hope from the early Victorian times and they sold it to the the Middlessex County Council in 1918 and then it wasbought by Brentford Council.

Can't help you on that one Colin re reference books here..but I suggest that you phone the Mayor's secretary or her assistant at the Civic Centre as they should have some records...even the Mayor's appointments diary at the time!Otherwise, perhaps try the Hounslow Reference Library at the Treaty Centre..I mean phone them..and maybe some helpful person at the desk there will help.Question for you. Who owns that large house in the middle of Carville Hall Park North?  Do you have any history of it?
