The Dew Drop Inn

Hello everyone,I don't know how many of you know, but the Dew Drop Inn at the bottom end of Brentford High Street has recently started a BYO night on Fridays; the food is simple but good (and hefty portions), the Dew Drop owners are lovely and friendly and I think it plugs a niche in the market. It's cheaper than going to a 'proper' restaurant and more of an event than getting a take-away. I love it as it's only round the corner and it's a proper treat without feeling guilty about expense the next day.They're only running it as a trial at the moment, but it IS a brilliant idea; if you haven't been already, get down there - and tell your friends. I've been twice now, and had to be rolled home afterwards on both occasions...

Right: word on the street is that the Friday night BYO idea might be resurrected when the weather's a bit cooler and there's more chance of people coming in (apparently, as the weather got warmer, the numbers dropped off a bit). If I hear more, I'll keep you posted... and think wistfully of the fritata I ate there all those weeks ago *sigh*...

I had planned to go a try out the Dew Drop last night but I was diappointed as I found it shut.This was at 8.30,hopefully it will be open next Friday cos I loooooovemoussaka

I don't know offhand; quite late though. The last time we were there, we didn't leave till eleven-ish.

And now you can have that glass of wine!I quite like the decor - that whole gingham wipeclean tablecloth look, but I guess that says more about me than anything. Still, on a Friday night, it's all white tablecloths and candles. I hope you all go - as it's just a trial at the moment, they're going to need convincing to keep the BYO venture going...

Actually I meant to post a recommendation on the Dew Drop Inn a few weeks ago but never got round to it so I am glad someone else did.  I hadn't been inside there for about 30 years and when the waterside festival was on the other week there was a very enterprising young lady dishing out flyers to drum up business.  Well as you probably all may remember it was a disastrous day weatherwise.  My family and I first went for a drink in the hotel (can't remember its name) which was mobbed.  We then tried Grounds for a possible drink and food but that was a disaster as well, simply could not get served.  So we decided to give the Dew Drop a try.It is not the most attractive place to visit but the food was terrific and inexpensive.  There were 3 adults and 2 children and I think the bill was about £27.  The only thing that spoilt it was that I wished I had a glass of wine to go with it.  It was the best Greek food I have had in a long time.  I was in Cyprus last year and hated every meal I had out there except for the Japanese and Italian so I can recommend the Dew Drop as well.

It's English and Greek, mainly. I'm vegetarian and when I went there first I had the feta and courgette fritatta; the second time I had the vegetarian moussaka - both very nice indeed. My friend had pasta with mushrooms which isn't English or Greek, but it looked nice too, even though I was up to my eyes in fritatta.

It really is. And beyond the whole 'supporting local businesses' gubbins, you should see the desserts!
