Time to get tough?
With reports today that cruelty towards animals has hit record levels isn't it about time the R.S.P.C.A. were given more and stronger powers to deal with the abusers? I have been watching the programmes about the various Animal Cops in the U.S. and also the programmes on trainee R.S.P.C.A. Inspectors here, and sadly I have drawn the conclusion that our lot are pretty feeble. They certainly don't mess around in the States - they don't wait until an animal dies they just get warrants and take the animals to safety, more often that not prosecution of owners follows swiftly with severe penalties. Surely it is the mark of a civilised society that we do all we can to eradicate this, I have three dearly loved moggies and I'd kill anyone who tried to harm them. What with the way our elderly are being treated - Panorama last Sunday - what sort of a society are we becoming? We should all be in the business of protecting the most vulnerable, human or animal. I hope the legislation that is going through Parliament beefing up animal protection goes far enough, but why is it I doubt it will?
