Summer Hols

Just trying to cheer the site up after the more recent mundane postings (again).............As it's that time of year, anyone going anywhere nice on their summer holidays?

I have just returned from a week in Italy a village in the hillside called St Agata about 8 miles from Sorrento and a similar distance to Positano.  Absolutely beautiful.  The locals were friendly the scenery spectacular and obviously the weather was superb.  My family and I rented a villa with pool where we could lounge around all day eating, drinking and swimming when we were not visiting Pompei or driving the Amalfi coast.  Apart from Ireland, definitely the best place I have visited.  The town seemed to have a celebration going on every night.  It was their patron saint day last week so there were concerts in the piazza, fireworks and miscellaneous celebrations throughout the week.  Absolutely fabulous!

Thankyou for a nice thread! Off to Bordeaux for a friend's wedding, then a trip round the Dordogne, back up to the Loire for a few days en route to Calais - in September, so the weather should have calmed down a bit!

AnnSorry but I was trying not to get myself into the same old slanging match which has been going on for sometime.SarahHaven't had much time to read lately, been trying to get through a great book by Liza Picard based on Samuel Johnson's London in the 1750s for the last few months which I would recommend. W H Smiths had a great book sale on last week when I went in there which may be worth looking into.As for the weather the last few weeks have been great apart from the humidity & the lack of sleep at night but we shouldn't complain as we don't get it that often. Roll on that Indian Summer!!GerrySounds great!!Hope you & your wife enjoy yourselves, have a San Miguel for me!!NeilThe weather has been great for the last few weeks, hope that it's still the same for your visit.Not looking too good for the Bees this season but I'll see if I can meet up with you & have a few beers in the Magpie to drown those sorrows.It's a shame your not over this week as the Great British Beer Festival is on at Earls Court. Met Charlie (ex Magpie) yesterday who was on his way there to set up the stands etc for the show. Will try to get myself down there next weekend to sample some of what's on offer, Hic!

I arrive on the 22 Sept and leave on the 8th October. I'll be watching Brentford lose and drinking in the Magpie & Crown and Brewery Tap.I promise to take some pics and post them on this site.

Actually, Neil - with the heat wave, England is a very nice place to spend the Summer - so, what we need from you - is for you to bring a lovely Indian Summer to stretch from September until the end of October?  ;-)How long will you be staying in sunny Brentford?  Maybe you could get our Jim to arrange a forum meet up?

My wife and I have chosen to spend two weeks in Nerja on the Costa del Sol this autumn. We love the old buildings of Spain and the wonderful inheritance of Muslim architecture of Andalucia in particular. We like the food, customs, climate and people of southern Spain - can't wait to get into those paellas, tapas delights and wild boar hams omlettes...it'll make a difference to our usual eating of M&S prepared dishes!So nice to read a simple straightforward and pleasant posting on BrentfordTW8, instead of what you call the 'mundane' stuff. I wouldn't choose the word mundane myself - rubbish more like! Thanks, you've cheered us up.  ;-)
