Somerfield to be turned into Waitrose??

I read on someone's blog (they being a brentford resident) that a leaflet had dropped through their door suggesting that the somerfield branch was to cease trading and be turned into a waitrose. anyone heard the same (sounds too good to be true!).

When you look at the line (northwards)of the cobbled street..Dock Road ..on the south side of Brentford High Street.. you will see that the line of vision northwards to St Paul's Church is blocked by the ugly inappropriate side wall of Somerfields Supermarket.So: I suggest that the building be demolished..and if a Shopping Mall is erected in its place..there should be an avenue of view from Dock Road to St Pauls Church..which was originally there...before the modern day developers arrived.

I was told by a neighbour that Somerfield is thinking of selling up.  There was a property inq on it in the estates gazette a few months back. That shocked me.

I remember when Somerfield used to be Gateway. Doesn't seem that long ago 10-12 years??My memory's getting a but shaky nowadays, but I never felt that Somerfields was much of an improvement over the old Gateway. Now an ASDA in Brentford..... that would be an improvement!!

Oh that would have been lovely, but unfortunately it's the good people of Edinburgh who'll be benefitting, as that's where Mark lives.He *used* to live in Brentford: "Somerfield depresses me. They have done ever since I found myself living in Brentford a couple of years ago, when I found myself shopping there regularly. I had a brief respite afterwards when I lived next door to a Sainsbury's instead" but now lives in Edinburgh - the 'about imark' page written in 2004 said he owned a flat in Edinburgh and hoped to live in it some day...  I guess Somerfield stays - at least it's not too far to West Ealing!

Waitrose are very good. Excellent quality but not cheap. I lived in Sunningdale for a year and used the Waitrose there compared to the Sainsbury's in Bracknell it was very expensive.Still as I said fabulous quality and incredibly fresh food.

I heard this a few months back but there is nothing showing up on the John Lewis Press Release Website - in fact there was one press release earlier this month listing 6 new stores but sadly no mention of Brentford!
