Prompted in part by the query Keith has referred to I wrote, last Friday, to the forum managers, suggesting that the code of conduct should explicitly require commercial organisations to identify themselves and, when they are acting for some other organisation to identify that too.I had the following same day reply."There have been a number of complaints about the use of the forums by market research companies and we have warned them about excessive posting. They may appear more prevalent on the Brentford forum because it is less active than other boards. However, other feedback from users has suggested that taking part in these focus groups is popular and has provided useful income for many people. Therefore on balance we have decided to continue to allow these posts for the time-being. We will keep an eye on this activity. If you feel that the companies should be providing more information I would suggest questioning them directly on the forum."This was somewhat unsatisfactory since it largely addressed a complaint I hadn't made. But they are clearly aware that there is a potential problem area here. Perhaps direct emails to "Julie Anne" will bring about a change in behaviour?
