Thames Water and bills

At the beginning of the year I requested a water meter.  It was put in THIS week after some six months of waiting.  I was sent a bill in April for £104 for the first six months of 2006 from April.  I questioned this as I explained I had applied for a water meter.  I was told that I HAD TO PAY this but would be given any refund due once the meter was installed.(How were they going to guess/figure the amount of water I had or hadn't used, I wondered.Today I received a reminder that my second £104 was due on the lst October and I rang again to querry this.'Oh it takes 21 days to transfer your account from regular payments to meter reading accounts - so you owe us another £104'.  I have refused to pay this........In any case October is more than 21 days from now.Another scandal?  Seems to me like one.

.....'only to be told they had to do lots of pipe work that hadnt been done for years - but thats my our fault it should have been done a little bit at a time....'That's not YOUR fault, it's their's. So I hope you get your money back!

lois - my dad lives in a 3 bed house on his own. does not have a washuing machine and i hate to say it but does not bath every day. he was paying the average amount for a 3 bed house famly for years and they would not listen to me. a few years ago i'd had enough and demanded a water meter. it took them along long time to finally get round - only to find he'd had a water meter all along. they checked  how much water hed used and turned out they owed him over £800. if my dad didnt have me to fight his corner he will still be paying the wrong amount.  a coupld of years ago my own bill bearly doubled - only to be told they had to do lots of pipe work that hadnt been done for years - but thats my our fault it should have been done a little bit at a time. so yes i do agree they have not good customer service and also very high charges.
