A good read for the weekend

Found a very funny book, Rat Scabies and the Holy Grail which starts in the Griffen Pub in Brentford nice little boozer. The book is a bit like the Da Vinci gets the punk rock treatment, the cast Jesus christ, Mary Magdalene, Da Vinci Debussy, Coucteau, opra singer, numerous popes, variuos kings the occasional nazi commando, the romens, the visigoths a bunch of medieval heretics called the Cathars, and many more...I am going to enjoy this one and as old fan of the Damned I will enjoy the lunacy.any other good reads out their? I picked up this one from the library.

I will have to have a look, I may not be up on football but I do love History of stuff like this. A friend of mine Eddie Menday does the local history page in the Chronic newspaper, every time I go anywhere in Hounslow with him he is able to give me a plotted history. I have been to Brentford a couple of times with Eddie and the history of the area is so rich and deep.

A good read is the "Brentford Legends" book. All the heroes of the greatest club in England

Hi I read the angels demons one but because I had read the Da Vinci the main character was spoiled a bit as he should of been explained in one or other book, it just seem like he was creating a new character rather than continuing in a line of books, I hope that makes sence.

My sons liked The Da Vinci Code - but said the book before that -  'Angels and Demons', was far superior, I genuinely did not like Da Vinci had I thought it worth the effort of reading it I would have said so, I am not some trendy twerp, perhaps it's a woman thing? However, a real read is anything by R.F. Delderfield, especially 'To Serve Them all My Days', I have read and read it and I still love it. I always find showbiz biographies or autobiographies very entertaining, I just read a book by Spike Milligan's agent - hilarious and quite sad too, why are so many comedians cursed with depressive illnesses?

Yeah,read Cascarino's book and very good. Try 'The way it was'by Sir Stanley and 'My Autobiography'by Sir Tom.Real eye openers both.'The King' by the Lawman is very good too.

Try Fathers Sons and Football by Colin Schindler. I think you'll like it even though you are a red. It is about three generations of the Summerbee dynasty. The best football book ever though is Tony Cascarino's auto-biography.People don't say the Da Vinci Code is crap because it is fashionable to do so, they say it is crap because it is sub-Jeffrey Archer pap with childishly simple codes that serve to convince morons that they are more intelligent than the 'Havard professor' in the book. The premise behind the book was interesting but that was completely plagiarised from another much better book written a couple of decades previously. If you haven't read the book yet - don't. I regret the three hours or so that I wasted on it.

I have a couple of Len Shakleton books in my collection, not that I am a football fan. Da Vinci code I like the story, its a paperback or what is called pulp fiction but was not bad as it blended a lot of other facts and myths into a good story and it wound up the church so much so they got a commission to argue against the book, I think it is to fashionable to say oh its not that good now.

Yeah it's a good read.Just finished 'Clown Prince of Football?'about Len Shackleton who was one of my father's heroes..he sounded like a tremendously skillful player ,although he was possible to much of a crowd entertainer to be greatly reliable.

"Just started 'Robbo-my autobiography'by Bryan Robson."I thought Roy Keane's autobiography was miles better :)Actually I haven't read Robbo - let us know if it is worth getting although with the Summer holidays now gone it will have to be one for Christmas.

Personally I thought the Da Vinci Code was a pile of rubbish, badly written, and just not engaging at all - gave up on it! Surprising what a lot of publicity can do though.

Looking around to main books for sale at the moment there seems to be a big upsurge in sort of Da Vinci style thrillers, I have counted at least 7 such style books, mind you I have just got the Dark Tower by Steven King which is a bit lord of the rings.

"as is anything by Ian Rankin" - I agree, I just spent the weekend rereading some of his older books including "Tooth and Claw" originally published as "Wolfman" - I just love Rebus!I also love anything by ROBERT Rankin - I have just got hold of a copy of his latest(?) - the Brightonomican and am looking forward to reading it shortly.Going back to Dave Hughes book choice, is Rat Scabies (Chris Miller) still a Brentford resident?? I haven't seen him around for a while.

I'm just finishing Michael Grade's autobiography - well worth a read, as is anything by Ian Rankin and of course the Dalziel and Pascoe books. May I also recommend "A Distant Echo" by Val McDermid, cracking!

Its a very good read, I read about when he did an interview for a local community magazine.One of my favourite fiction books is London by Edward Rutherfurd. A great read.
