The Weir

Went there recently and thought I'd share a few thoughts. It isn't the first time I've visited since it was gastro-pubbed but there still seems to be a hard core of regulars from its previous incarnation who don't seem all that happy with the changes but keep on coming regardless. Walking through the bar into the back garden is a bit like running a gauntlet. I thought I was being hypersensitive but other people in my group noticed it. Nothing overtly hostile just a look that indicated some people weren't overjoyed to see you.The food is really just pub grub despite its pretensions (and prices). It isn't bad it is just you get the feeling that the cook hadn't quite mastered the recipe although had made a decent fist of it. The reason to go there is obviously the location. The garden is absolutely terrific when the sun is shining and they have made a good job of laying it out. Service was also pretty good given that they were busy.

agreed ... i'd rather avoid mucking about in brentford (sadly) and head up to ealing if i want something nicer to eat.

Despite some of the negative comment we thought we would try the Weir again with this Indian Summer meaning sitting outside is still possible. The food isn't great as but it is not that bad and it was worth paying a premium to be in such a nice spot. Don't think I will be back until next May or June though.

Food at the Weir is overpriced and overcooked, for good pub grub you can't beat the Ealing Park Tavern.

The London Apprentice changed manager recently and the food has got better

Part of the problem must be that if a pub has a good location then it doesn't need to try too hard on the food. The London Apprentice and the one further up the river (the Town Wharf?) don't serve particularly good food but if it is a sunny day and you want a walk by the river the chances are you will end up there. San Marco is the exception - good food, good location.

You could be right Dan but I would not have thought the old-timers would have been regulars from the pubs days as the White Horse as the pub was always empty during its last months.

Perhaps that's why the people in the bar seem to resent the diners! I thought it was just the old-timers not liking to see other people in their regular and blaming them for increased prices. Of course the food is where their margin is and beer doesn't go cold.

I have popped in a couple of times and to be honest I thought the service was dreadful,and told them so.The young fella behind the bar seemed more intent in leaving customers at the bar waiting while he grabbed plates and served meals.Obviously no-one wants there food served cold but he just stops halfway through pouring a pint and walks off without a word!The last time was a Saturday lunchtime and was not overly busy,so I can only presume that this is what he is instructed to do as all I got was a shrug of the shoulders when I asked him.
