Changes to Brentford, Chiswick & Isleworth Times website

We are in the process of updating our website to provide more up-to-date news and pictures for Hounslow.Soon the site will be also allow residents from across Hounslow to upload their own pictures of the borough, post comments, send letters and search for long-lost acquaintances.What do you think of the changes? Justin I assume you are talking about the dreadful tripe that is delivered fortnightly by Hounslow Council? Why is it still in existence? If the Tory/ICG alliance are mooting a cool £1million in cuts, which will translate into jobs going of course, then how can they justify keeping that pile of useless rubbish going? It's always been an ego trip for the party in power and a criminal waste of council tax payers money.

The decline of the local newspaper is a nationwide issue not just confined to Hounslow. Locally I suppose that the launch of HM has hastened the national trend. It is clear that the paper is kept going by syndicated group wide ads and the residual statutory notice business that hasn't been taken up by HM - as well as numerous ads for local prozzie services which seem to be the only private sector business actually using the paper. The ABC numbers suggest readership in low triple digits.Interesting then that they are beefing up their on-line content. I supposed if circulation is flat lining there is nothing to be lost by encouraging people to read it free on the web. If Newsquest are putting resources into this area they may have got wind of legislative changes in the offing which is opening up the possibility of more revenue streams for their site.

Stephen,I know it sounds parochial, but in common with the comments from my fellow TW8.com posters, I think I would be more interested in a BCI Times website if it actually was a website dedicated to Brentford, Chiswick and Isleworth rather than a subsection of Hounslow News on the Richmond & Twickenham Times website. This is the first thing I noticed when I clicked on the link you supplied, and should be the first thing you change. If a local website is to be relevant to its target community it should have an appropriate name and content.Best regards.James

The website is a major improvement to the Hounslow Guardian website that many of us accessed to find out the Times view on local events. Sadly, lack of patronage means that the Hounslow version of the paper is dead. However, there was no Hounslow version a number of years ago when the B&I edition did give good coverage of the area. Let's hope the paper recovers and becomes more locally relevant. Like others, I have little interest in a paper whose main focus is Richmond and Twickenham.

Right on Paul - couldn't agree more, I even wrote to the paper re this very point - no response - no publication of letter. The BC&I is full of everything, everywhere BUT BC&I! Stupid Tesco in Mogden Lane don't even sell it anymore - they insist they're in Twickenham - they are NOT! They are geographically in Isleworth even if that doesn't appeal to their snobby pretensions. The paper is a pale shadow of its former self, even the Chronic. is better. Start being a local paper again with relevant news and views then worry about other things.

Stephen,With all respect I feel you should be concentrating on the paper itself at the moment instead of the website.The BCI Times is obviously just the poor relation of the Richmond and Twickenham Times, and if I wanted to read a letters page full of concerns about Sheen and Barnes then I would travel there and buy a copy rather then read it each week in the copy I have delivered.Good luck anyway with the website but please try and produce a newspaper which concentrates on news from Brentford Chiswick and Isleworth?
