Chiswick Roundabaout - appeal decision is in

The appeal by the developers to build a 5 story building with another 7 stories of advertising hoardings (or billboards) on top at Chiswick Roundabout took place August 1-3.The appeal decision is in folks - will it go ahead or not? I believe rates are suspended and advertising hoardings can be placed around empty sights with no restrictions provided work is 'on going' what ever that may mean. That is why so many places disappear behind these hoardings and little if any work seems to be happening for long periods of time. Developers buy up sights with no real intension of working on the site as the revenue gained by not developing the building are so high, its cash in the pocket also known as money for old rope

May I float a question about the advertising on these buildings?When a house is empty – it does not attract rates.  Is this the same with businesses?  If so, these huge blocks are empty of their normal style business, but surely it could be argued that the nature of their business has changed (albeit to suit the land lord) and surely they should be paying full business rates into the Community pot?…or is this another out of date and unusable loophole needing to keep up with some ‘modernisation’ agenda?….  ;-)

At last night's Area Committee meeting Matt Hamer reported that the huge advert on the Ealing Road corner has seemingly..in part..been taken down..in response to some pressure I believe. Good news.All that light pollution too... as someone remarked. Matt mentioned that those jumbo adverts earn fees of some £2000 per day...ie £750,000 a year...three quarters of a million!!  The ads are aimed at travellers on the Motorway above. There are so ugly at street level aren't they?

Hi Keith.This chappie was discussed in recent times on the Chiswick Forum..and "tediously" I had posted these two pictures. It's a sad sight..but when passing by the other day..he looked quite at home! Presumably the Police and Social Services..and the nearby garage..are aware of him.oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

The number of hording going up throughout the borough is distrusting they are every bit of an eyesore as the other forms of graffiti that seems to be increasing throughout the borough As for the hydro add, well I would like to see that go its from my major competitor so I guess I am a little prejudice about that one.

Who is that geezer living(12 yrs now?)under the flover.He must be really hardy and have lead filled lungs.Tried to give him a fiver once and was met with a tirade of abuse...there's no helping some. He puts signs up,mostly highlighting his dislike of England and all things English. I wonder if he is French?

It's the distraction of M4 drivers' attention which should be  a particular cause for concern. Those huge GWR adverts are directed at them...and the revenues are apparently phenominal.However, a further worrying developement seems to be large hoardings in fields adjoining the M4 approaching Brentford..where there is a reduction in London bound carriageways to 2 lanes.!  Are these in fields attached to Osterley Park?

That's good news Steven and the Inspector's detailed observations were a delight to read.Could not his arguements be equally applied to the huge advertisments on the sides of buildings on the Great west Road.and Transport Avenue that perhaps distract the attention of drivers for one wee second.Now have a quick look at the following picture ..and what do you notice first?It's on the Great west Road..at a place where there have been many accidents over the years..going back to the 1950's when the camber of the road was dodgy.What do you notice first?........
