New York - crash of light plane

Scary half an hour while we waited to learn the details...sad for pilot and other person killed, but thank heavens it was not a repeat of 9/11.

Mind you, long before 9/11, in the late 30s? A plane hit the Empire State Building. The plane I believe was somewhat larger than the one this time, but the Empire State building is constructed with a huge steel frame unlike the modern ones, so its stood such tests much better.

Vanessa,Travel safely and have a great time.Today my daughter flew back from a holiday in Barbados - flight was 5 hours late so she and my granddaughter missed their connection to Cork.  They are now booked into an hotel in Manchester, and were watching Ant and Dec when she rang me.Thankfully they seem pretty chilled out,but what an end to a holiday!

As terrorist targets are usually economic first and foremost, Sunday would be the safest day to fly.  As I understand it the small plane incident was simply a tragic accident.

doris,I have to agree with you about the siren....that cold feeling in the centre of the chest!Happy days.....

Ann I agree. Must have caused many a New Yorker a "heart stopping moment".  Believe or not, my heart still lurches when I hear a siren, after all these years since the Blitz it still has that effect. In our neighbourhood every Monday morning we have a practice siren that goes off.  Luckily it is the "all clear" sound. This is the warning for an approaching "Tsumani", and a signal to "head for the hills".
