A Little Bit Of Feedback Required......

IF you were going to buy an original black and white photograph for your home or a gift would you want it to be of local landmark/theme or would you also be interested in other topics?I’m just trying to gauge what local interest might be before I take off and take a load of photographs that are no interest to anyone!!!I’m also very interested in any suggestions that might make a nice b&w.Many thanks for your thoughtsRebeccahttp://www.rebecca-sichelcoates.com

There are the locks up at Hanwell that go up to Southall and the famous '3 Bridges'(rail,canal and road bridges in the one place.possibly unique on planet Earth).The viaduct at Hanwell too is an interesting structure(not the Viaduct pub!)as are the buildings on Osterley and Syon parks.Lots of wildlife too,especially in the former.The walk from Windmill lane to the canal at Hanwell(the area is called ,possibly informally'Bluebell Wood')is quite nice in the summer particularly.There are loads of quite old churches all over the area.The one near Brent Valley Golf Course on Golden Manor is on a site that has had a religious building of one form or another on it for 1,000 yrs and there are a couple of thatched houses on Golden Manor that are unusual for the area.Happy snapping!

I know nothing whatever about digital photography - adding and subtracting, but as a practicing artist who specialized in 'portraits of houses' (Two write-ups  I always included in my drawing someone 'special to do with the family concerned :  an animal, a window box, a dog, a baby etc. evn beloved hubby or wife!

I think Keith has pointed out the key B/W subjects.  I've noticed a lot of new birds in Syon, Bushy Parks today.I had a photographer friend who was interested in B/W after he took up after finishing his flowers theme when Wisley cracked down on him.  He took a striking photo of a tree showing bark and texture effects.  I took a set of photos in the snow in Peak District which appeared B/W but it's rare we get snow here.A chap I know who was into sports photography as a hobby achieved a well-known but striking Photoshop effect by showing main subject in colour but background in B/W.I think using B/W enables one to re-interpret old and familiar subjects in a new way.

Personally Rebecca I like a black and white photo'of someone whose face has 'character'or whose demeanour suggests a story or theme.I think locally that some of the river scenes/boats/boatyards etc.would make fairly good material.There are usually quite a few birds like herons and gulls down by the London Apprentice at low tide or swans on the canal from time to time.Good luck in your work.
