Seems like everyone got ahead of themselves and it didn't happen as planned. See the below from BAA:Runway alternation10 November 2006Runway alternation took place at midday today for the first time in a number of weeks following a period of essential maintenance works on aircraft stands and taxiways on Heathrow’s eastern apron. The return of today’s alternation was nine days earlier than originally planned. The return to alternation was possible because of the acceleration of works in the aircraft holding area. However, within a short period of time, it became clear that some work on a nearby taxiway that could not be brought forward, was having an extreme and unanticipated effect on the airfield’s operations. The work on the taxiway is part of the original essential works programme and it was thought that the airport could alternate whilst these works were being carried out.We sincerely regret the inconvenience this will cause local residents over the next few days. BAA has tried to do everything it can to carry out these works as quickly as possible. The taxiway works will be finished by next Tuesday - earlier than originally scheduled – but, unfortunately, the airport cannot resume alternation today as we hoped
