Hi RuthKeith and Neil seem to be our experts on the Magpie & Crown..but I don't ever recall seeing people eating from a plate there...not like the Express where they even serve packets of crisps on plates!! Most at the Magpie are hanging onto their glasses half full with real ale...including me sometimes! I must venture there again!I did have a look around the Ferry Lane hot spots on Saturday evening about 11pm..after leaving Fat Boys..and found the Old Fire Station busy..certainly at the bar, the Waterman's pub looked full up and booked up with a private party function, the Caribbean restaurant looked busy with some 30 customers..including a 40th birthday party group, next door the San Marco was closed and all the lights out!! (surprising that as I've had some outstanding meals there) Easing along to the new Night Club I found a charming doorman wishing to invite me in to swell the low level of occupancy!! I was not dressed for the occasion..and declined his kind offer. Back to Fat Boys!yes I must visit the Cocacabana sometime!tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttFeeling semi full after the double-starter..I thought I'd take it easy on the Fat Boys' main course..and seeking advice..was recommended the Mad Sa Man Curry!(A typical Muslim chicken..or beef..curry in a mild sauce with peanuts and potato)  It tasted much better that it may look here..and it almost filled me up!  tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttI enjoyed the sparkling water..but found the red French wine in the 2/10 category. (as you know 1 in 7 wine bottles are suppose to be off..but only 1 in a 100 people complain!)But dessert was on offer and I do like banana fritters and ice cream (are you reading this my doctor!!?)tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttMy normal ration is 4 banana fritters..and so my body was shortchanged!!tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttWe were so starved during and after the War (WW2)and the 1940's and 1950's that the hunger pains have never really left me!! ;0).No, I didn't order another portion..I paid the £36 bill including tip and left!!ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttBut I will be going back again. Fat Boys is a great local feature. Nigel you must return!

I gather that there are some four local Fat Boy Thai restaurants..one in Ealing,Richmond,Chiswick and the one at 68 High Street, Brentford..not far from the Old Fire Station.Hasn't the building been nicely renovated and maintained? Fat Boys has ensured that remains alive and well.  I had only been once before a year or two back joining Forum friend Gerry Tan there for lunch. (thanks again Gerry!)tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttThe interior is cosy and tastefully decorated and on entry there is a welcoming flotilla of young Thai ladies to escort you to your table. It seems to seat about 60 covers but there were at most only 12 diners were there at 9.30pm last night! But it was still cosy. The menu seems to be very similar to Chinese fayre..what's the main difference?A plate of mixed starters is my usual entree..but being on my own I noticed that such a plate was only for two or three people!!  Being a big boy..I didn't hesitate to order the double dish!!(two spring roll, two satay, two prawn on toast, and two small fried chicken wing.) Well, you did ask what the place was like!! The scene was splendid really..the decor, the sight of the food and bottles of mineral water and wine..and the elegantly dressed and well groomed ladies fluttering around...but what did it taste like you will ask.At the fab Chinese Restaurant 261 Bath Road, Hounslow, ""Sungs"" such a starter plate would have included seaweed, and perhaps spare ribs too..and perhaps more of each!!Two fat-boys at Fat Boys, Brentford would have swiftlydemolished that plate...£8.25!....and the chicken bits looked a modest offering.ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttThe main couse and dessert to follow!!PS: the half-bottle of french red wine was grim!
