Is there a competition going on?

In the next road to me the Council(direct services) have been re-surfacing the footpath, this has been going on for months - the odd thing is that there are no workmen there when I leave for work around 7.05.a.m. and none there when I arrive home around 3.45.p.m. This of course may well account for the fact this is taking longer than it probably did to build the Great Wall of China, I understand the "work" should have been completed by the end of September, so I can only conclude this is some sort of 'I can spin a job outlonger than you'competition, what it isn't is acceptable, or a full days work.

I actually saw movement this morning as I left a little later than normal, the point of this is that they were supposed to finish by September - they are the Council's own "workmen", if they were contractors they'd have been chucked off site by now, whoever is to blame be it the "workmen" or the "management", it ain't bloody good enough. My boss is based in Cornwall but I still do a full days work, as an adult I really don't have to have someone watching me all the time - it's known as taking responsibility, and surely you should be able to trust grown men?

I didn't think they did that much work (One hour) I have only seen them moving once when they had some tarmac delivered they had to spread it before it went off. Good old british work ethics do as little as possible for as much as possible!

Keith go to Worple Ave any day then see for yourself how the work is done a short burst for an hour then two hours sitting around. I have watched this myself from my sons house, and yes I do have a job that I have to do for twelve hours a day +. I would swap with these guys if I was younger and I expect they are on more money!

It's easy isn't it to have a go at working men...quite often you will find that they have been pulled off a job because of poor management and planning.They're the ones you have a go at but often it's someone sitting in a nice warm office who has cocked up.

It is a bit of a myth the 'Hard working Polish' syndrome...I have lots of mates in the building game who prefer Brits at work because if they can't do something(ie :if they're carpenters they won't claim to be able to do plumbing and thus won't stuff the job up).Big business and the middle classes are the only ones that have really benefitted from the cheap labour they provide.

Saturday working? I'd do more than raise a bloody question, they're just lazy b******s, and then they wonder why services are privatised or contractors are getting the jobs, this is appalling - someone should be kicking a***s!Where is the supervision????????????????

As I`m sure you know Vanessa,I live on Worple Avenue and the workrate or lack of it is amazing.Saturday mornings have been known to see a little action but the game at the moment is to tarmac 50 yards or so, leave a big gap and then carry on and return to the gap left a couple of weeks later!!

You must mean Worple Ave where my daughter lives, I think they are on day-work the longer the job the more they get but I bet they are being paid for a ten hour day. Maybe the council should employ Polish workers who don't mind a bit if hard work?
